5 or 6 Speed, Close Ratio 4 speed

Forget the close ratio 4 speed. I used one on my 850 monoshock because I didn't think a Quaife (only Nort 5 speed available in the 1980s) could handle what the 850 was putting out (the gears were wearing on a angle because of shaft flex so an outrigger bearing was installed). It probably cost me 2 seconds a lap because the CR 4 speed ratios are still wider than a 5 speed. The 850 was tweaked to the max - to keep up with the 1000cc open twins class bikes (BOTT) I was running against.

The BSA Gold Star fitted with the RR T2 gearbox was something you wouldn't want to ride in traffic. The 4 speed CR cluster is great for races where there is a bump start, but for clutch start, you need the low first gear. What you lose off the line you have to pick up later. I wouldn't pay $5000 for a 6 speed gearbox to use in a street bike. It is a complete waste of a treasure.

Hi all, had some feed back from Ken McIntosh in NZ, he has adviced to go straight to the TTI box, so will review all once I start the build.

Hi 72 Combat , did the last track day with Moto TT in Taupo with my Roadster, Bike #1, only old Brit bike there, although a guy from Taupo turned up with a Unity Spares Triton he had just imported, but couldn't get it to run right.
Path for Bike #2 is cafe racer style, maybe not road registered, for track days with a view to race in some class at some stage, maybe it will need a better pilot than me to get the best out of it, although it won't be for the lack of trying!!!
Regards Mike

I have done the short #2 track on the BMW but it was geared a bit high for it, going back in September for another go on shorter gearing.
I had a ride on my mates almost stock T140 around the track and it was fine , You should talk to Bob Nesbitt, he runs a Commando team.
I'm building a 500 BMW up for next years Puke festival...mainly to use up the bits I have lying around...
I be a TT gearbox is $$$$$$$, a pre unit Triumph with t140 internals would be a lot less.

Apparently Phil Pick of Triple Cycles in the UK sells two pairs of gears for the Triumph five speed box, which give a better spread of ratios.
