20 vs 21 sprocket tooth

Sorry for anyone who rides a Commando on a freeway/carrageway. Why? What a waste.
No choices here in Toronto. You must battle traffic , then 400 series highways simply to escape the G.T.A. conditions. Then you can drive up into the lovely hillys.

Just to confuse things a bit more, I have a 55/28 Commando belt drive here.
It looks very similar to the RGM.
I purchased it on eBay ages ago.

Glen
Yes you have an early rgm I have one fitted for the last 15years same belt speeds the gearbox up to take strain off you need to drop gearbox sprocket or will be over geared . You can buy a 54 clutch basket to really play with your ratios fit it you want regret it

My neck is shot also making for limited Commando miles. ... Not giving up the ones I can get either.

David, if you don’t already do so, go and see a chiropractor. Stiff / problematic necks can often be a symptom of something being out of line somewhere else, causing a knock on effect that ends up in your neck. Such things seldom become right by the selves but are an easy fix in the right hands.

Degenerative disc disease for me and some other goodies.... You may not like the answers to your questions at your age, but you may end up lucky. Chiros x-rayed me over 20 years ago and invited me not to return. D.O.'s do better adjustments if you can get one to do it.

It is muscle strain trying to hold head forward against 70+ mph wind and a full helmet. I wasn’t referring to a chronic condition, just that my neck muscles aren’t in condition. Someone today recommended some isometrics.
Thanks

See Dr. Windscreen. Gonna stick one on my 850 to give the wing a rest. They help that problem a lot.

Being a fair weather only rider now, (got all the bad weather brownie points I need, thank you), a few seasons ago I started wearing an open face helmet. Find it oh so much more comfortable than full face (think slippers for your head as opposed to wellie boots!), though they tend to lift your head at speed rather than push it back. Sure many here won't touch them (I wouldn't use one on a modern sports bike) but I found the riding so much more pleasurable....

I have unintentionally migrated to wearing an open face helmet 99% of the time. Did just over 100 miles yesterday in it (and it was fookin’ fresh yesterday).

Ain‘t gonna try and justify it or even explain it, cos I can’t, I just prefer it.

My riding mates think I’m a bit daft, but there’s nowt new there !

We're clearly well off topic!
I toyed with the idea of an open face helmet when I switched from a 'modern' to my '72 Commando Roadster in 2015.
Then we had a club talk from a member's son who is a pilot for the Devon Air Ambulance - he is also a biker.
I kept with a full face helmet.

I'll admit to always having worn open-faced helmets now that it has been brought into the open..... They do have setbacks at high speeds though, but so do the tickets popo issues for doing them.

20T is winding the old motors pretty tight if holding those speeds too.... Steering back Boss.

I sometimes used an open helmet until I saw a badly damaged full face helmet.
This was at a motorcycle shop. The owner of the damaged helmet was ordering a replacement full face helmet and holding the damaged helmet. He said that he came off at slow speed, I think it was around 30 mph. He slid along on the pavement , chin down.
The fiberglass of the chin portion had ground away on the carborundrum of the asphalt. There wasn't much remaining in the chin area, just enough to keep his chin away from road contact.
Same small accident with an open face would have removed his chin.

You guys have grasshoppers in England. Try catching one in the lip at 60mph. Makes you a true believer in full face protection.
