I'm having trouble fitting the speedo spacer on my rear axle. does part 34 on the exploded diagram NOT fit into the hole for the speedo when it's up against it? im confused, because it seems there would be no way for me to fit that without bending my swingarm apart...has anyone else had this issue? could someone please take a pic of their set up? i have the axle, the washer, the long spacer, a short (speedo) spacer then the speedo..does this sound correct? thank you!

It's a tight fit. Even when everything is assembled correctly I usually need to rock the wheel a bit to get the spacer in place and tap it with a mallet to get it aligned with the swingarm slot. If your swingarm has been tweaked from not having the top hat in place you might have to resort to a crowbar.

gotcha! is it possible that part 34 is for the bigger holed speedo drives? mine it will not fit into. i have the original smiths 529397. i can't imagine the part being machined that way unless it sunk into the speedo hole...hmmm?

anyone have a picture of their rear wheel set up on the right side?

If previously assembled without no. 34 "Top Hat spacer", the "cheese" that the speedo drive is cast from will squish a bit and then when you try and stick the spacer into the drive after the fact, it won't fit. Measure things and then consider the use of a "step drill" to open the hole one size larger. Then wait for someone smarter than Jeltz to tell you to put the drill away.

I have an early model bike and before I modified my cradle swingarm tube with kegler clamps, my bike had a "snake-like" weave going down the road at higher speeds. The weave was especially noticeable above 60mph. Your bike may have the later improved swingarm tube design, so my comment may not apply to your model, but the symptom sounds familiar, so I am mentioning it.
