In 1969 Norton was moving premises and before that engines and parts were shipped to plumstead road for final assembly . I would say records are sketchy at best, but probably Les would have a fair idea. But things surely would have settled in by 70 and a fair amount would be built.

I sold the black tail light assembly that I found earlier, and made about a $55 profit. So than I bought a stock silver metal flake tail light assembly on Ebay for $126 which in the end cost me $71 with the proper Lucas red bubble reflectors.
I am going to paint the rest of the bike Emerald metal flake green to match the new old stock side cover I found. This tail light assembly will work with that combination.

The brochures posted by DogT are a fantastic source of information but appear to be US, don't suppose anyone has the equivalent UK brochures!
particularly interested in 1974 commando.

I damaged the lens on my 72 Roadster when i was unloading it off my motorbike trailer. I was surprised at the price variations on ebay. From as high as $60, down to the $7.95 I paid ($16 with postage). I think it came from China, so I doubt it's genuine. But it screwed straight into place & looks terrific.

I was told that the original '70 tail light housing was fiberglass finished with silver metal flake .

My 70 has a black finish no metal flake. Still has the selling dealers decal on it. Motorsports in St. Louis.

Not sure about this statement:
"Yes 69-70 S and Roadster have a Halo, R type and Fastback do not, as Dave stated 69-70 S and Roadsters came with a Flake Silver Tail Light if your bike was Metal flake in colour if your bike was Yellow or Black then your taillight colour was black."

I don't believe there was an overlap with the R model and the roadster. Don't think there was a 1970 R.
Don't think the R model had a halo.

Nice article on the early Commando's.

My 70 has a halo and isn't an S model. Only had about 14,000 miles on it when it died. Stayed that way from 1972 until last year when I bought it. Metal flake purple, low pipes, black tail light housing and a halo with a 7" headlight. I think with all that was going on with Norton at that time almost anything was correct.

Yes, I heard only the Yellow & black ones had the Black tail light. Not many of these original silver metal flake ones out there at all.

Very nicely restored. That is about the extent I would like mine to be restored. I have some broken fins I need welded. Your cylinder head looks great.

Hi Bruce,
The one Snorting bought does look like the correct one for your model.
I bought a brand new one & when I tighened the big bolt at the back it started to twist & would not tighten up properly.
Just be a bit careful doing it up as its a pain if it breaks .
cheers Don
