Will any of the e-state kits work on a 1968 Commando? Points behind the motor, first design.

According to Norvill, my engine number is too early for their starterI don't think the cNw or Alton would work as the starter motor would be in the way. You might look at the Norvil site as these are copies of an Old Brits design.

Run a breather from the back of where the ignition used to sit as per a Mk2Depending on the new camshaft features the breather out the side above the primary could be blocked so a new breather may be required.
Maybe better to go for a crank mounted ignition which comes with its own issues but I think would be a shorter list of changes.
Or swap the engine for a 20M3S type, preferably complete and ready to fit. While at it, the OP could improve the chassis as well. But considering the cost of an e start on top of everything else maybe buy a Mk3 and keep the 1968 Commando original.
Good point L.A.B but an easy work around, just file a slot in the bottom edge of the small points cover…

Just checked on ebay and there are suitable covers listed in both UK and USA. It's the work necessary to instal a new cam that would be the biggest cost I imagine.

when I fitted a fitted a later Commando timing cover and 4s cam to my 88 I also had to use the matching cam sprockets and modify the tensioner arrangement. What would be necessary to swap ignition to the latter location?
Camshaft. Which would require a full tear down of the engine. Reface the followers.
Latter timing cover and points cover.
A suitable ignition unit.
Original tach wouldn't work. So electronic would be easiest.
A simple plate would cover the hole. And lose the chain.
Gasket sets.
What have I forgotten?
