Hi All.
My 33 CSR come to me with front VM2 x 19 and rear VM3 x 18.
The Roy Bacon book seems to say both wheels 18, but the sale brochure says 19 front and 19 rear for CSR and 19/18 for 33.
Is both wheel 19 f/r the correct size?
Thank you.

Hi Piero,

For 1965/66 the G15CSR was specified with 18"/18" front/rear, identical to the G12CSR.
During 1966-67 (early) it became 19"/19" F/R. In 1967 (2Q. onwards) the sweptback model was replaced by the sports touring version which kept the 19"/19" wheels. This was verified by careful examination of pictures of alledged genuine bikes.

Being badge-engineered bikes, I am certain the =M= and AJS versions had the same wheel sizes. If the sales brochure says otherwise, it is likely a printing error.

The G15Mk2 / M33 had 18" / 18" F/R wheels all years.

Hi Knut,
it is a nightmare.
My 1964 G15 and 1966 N15 come to me both with front 19 and rear 18.
Thank you.

Hi Knut,
it is a nightmare.
My 1964 G15 and 1966 N15 come to me both with front 19 and rear 18.

The CS models had 19" / 18" F/R all years, so nothing wrong there. It is the common recipe for street scramblers, providing a little more ground clearance. Triumph TR6C had the same spec. Pukka off-road bikes (e.g., Matchless G80CS, G12CS) had 21" front wheels. Restoraton usually involves wheels to be rebuilt and as long as you know the specification I don't see a problem.

The real nightmare is not knowing the specification due to poor documentation or scarcity of sample parts. Luckily we have the Internet!! There are not many obscured areas concerning the "hybrids" left ..... The fact that specification changed over the years (in case of the CSR) is not uncommon. N-V changed a lot more on the Commando model from year to year!
