Hi . I bought an old 1950 Norton abroad some time ago . The local paperwork isn’t very detailed . Can anyone tell me what model it is with these two numbers ? I think one is frame number 50573
And engine 50569 ., ( on log book )
Can’t really see them on engine as faded . TIA

Thank you . Still don’t see anything to give me an indication though . Ill
Upgrade to vip and send a pic ..
It tells you the year, you need the model number that is probably in front of the engine number to know the model from the model table - I know very little about pre-Commando Nortons so I can't help much.

Good idea - a few pictures and those who know the old Nortons will surely tell you what it is right away.

Right . Got you . I’ll check when I’m with bike next . Thanks again

Most likely an ES2 or model 50 single. A photo would be helpfull . Working on a friends ES2 currently , nice old thumper .

What makes you think it's a single? If so it could be Model 18, 19 or Big 4
Could be a Model 7 or 77 dommi - started production 1949. I think the 77 was export - for us poor bastards at the earth's extremities.
All these were made in 1950.
Without pictures or description it's just a poke in the dark!
Cheers

Its just the way it was in the uk. They were the most common at that time . Also discarded Ex WD M20 and Matchless 350.s lying around left in front gardens , blocking holes in hedges and leaning against walls waiting for the scrap man , Loads in London. An unwanted spare 88/99 engine from the 1960.s would ivariably be from a coil ignition 88/99 standard or deluxe. Its just a numbers thing.

The key indicators (without other information) are "1950" & "abroad" - so, could be many things.
@Spud64 , how about describing what you have?
