Idle problem solved

A hypothetical ( perhaps stupid) question. What would happen if only one side of the manifold cross tube was blocked off. Would the feed to the other cylinder be enough to keep the RPM higher at startup?
I'm guessing you mean blocking between the centre spigot for the IAC and one throat of the throttle body. I'd expect the resulting difference between the cylinders in terms of richness would then be picked up by the O2 sensors and the ECU would try and correct it. I don't think the result would be pleasant.

Yes exactly. I wondered if the ECU would compensate and add more fuel to the cylinder being “dragged”

Let me make sure I understand what you are asking . You want to know at what battery voltage the bike becomes hard to start ?
Cranks over but won't fire/start ? Might actually be the ECU and not the IAC mod ?
May 8th , 2022 Bike just taken off charger 13.62V bike off , Bike started and then key off. 5 min later key off voltage 13.27V
May 9th , 13.31V bike off
May 10th , 13.31V bike off
May 11th , 13.31V bike off
May 12th , 13.30V bike off
May 13th , 13.30V bike off
May 14th , 13.30V bike off , Started bike (starts good) and key off, 10 min later key off voltage 13.26V
May 15th , 13.29V bike off
Some facts : Shorai LFX18A battery 5 years old , parasitic drain key off ( 0.9ma ) .

And you thought the testing was done ...
May 16th , 13.27V bike off
May 17th , 13.25V bike off
May 18th , 13.23V bike off , Started bike (starts good idles good) and key off , 10 min. later key off voltage 13.12 V

You are also proving what a good battery the Shorai is!!

I've had 5 Shorai batteries. Just replaced one that was 8 years old. Never had an issue with one, or been left stranded

We are testing at what voltage level does the ignition stop working well. This may seem like a battery test but not the main reason for this test.

11.8 Starts easily, with the headlight on.

HERE

There is no way my bike would have done this with the IAC. I put this down to the reduction of cranking effort due to there being no air feed by the IAC.

(@TonyA you might be typing a few more lines to get to that  )

Right on that . So at what voltage does your bike not fire ? I am using a Fluke DVM on the charge lead not the meter in the speedo.

So after watching your video , I decided to do an accelerated test by leaving the headlamp on to pull the battery down faster .

May 20 , 2022 key off 13.18V
May 21 . 2022 key off 13.17V , Started bike 3 times (starts good each time) 13.10V 10 min. after starting .
I left the headlamp on for 10 mins , measured key off and tested .

Accelerated testing : High beam on 10 min x 3 times ( 30 minutes total head light on) battery voltage now reads 12.76V key off .
Bike now fires sporadically during start - reluctant to start ( END OF TEST) .

I have included these charts from Shorai and generic AGM Batteries which shows no load voltage vs capacity remaining.
In my case I do not want to let my no load battery voltage to drop below 13.11 around 50% capacity remaining , otherwise I will have reluctant starting and will quickly run down the battery while cranking. If you are using an AGM battery your voltage values will be different. But a good rule of thumb for my bike and this battery is not to let it drop below 50% capacity .

BUT , as you can see with a lower parasitic drain you can go quite a few days parked and still get your bike started . But looking back at the threads some of the bikes have a considerable parasitic drain , in some cases as much as 10 or 20 times more drain than my bike ( 0.9 vs 18 ma ) ! ! So get to know your bike and your battery , hopefully this help somebody .

Hello , I had my bike out again for a couple of 75 mile loops. Everything is running good as is my idle with the iwilson plug and set for 1200 rpm hot . What a glorious sound it makes when diving deep on the throttle ! I will never get tired of that sound it makes ! Are there other bikes that sound like this ? I can tell you that my 2004 Thruxton did not sound like this. The sound and feel become addictive as does looking for every opportunity to let it sing its song !

You've eliminated the air box??? Damn, I need to show up more. Have you posted the process anywhere on the forum?

Yes , the process is pretty well documented , look at this thread :

Hi Tony, what is that JEGS device above the inline filter?

Hi Tony, what is that JEGS device above the inline filter?
Steep descent oil reservoir , just an experiment based on a complaint from an AUS forum member. While going down a steep descent he hears the lifters clatter because he was running out of oil. First it’s not big enough to fix his problem. Second , I don’t have a descent steep enough around here to fully test it !
