I've had a bit of a look, but couldn't find so...
I have found that lead/acid car batteries last about 5-6 years before giving up the ghost.
The Shorai on my Commando is now 5 years old - so... any wisdom from members on how long these things last?
Lead time + shipping (relative backwoods) would mean my bike would be off the road for weeks.
I, ideally, would like to buy a new one "just" before failure.
Cheers

All I can say is that they last a LONG time.

And they have a virtually indefinite shelf life.

So if you buy one, charge it, and stick it on the shelf, you will have a spare whenever you need it.

Thanks - I think I'll do that. 👍 👍

Getting a 12volt lithium battery which is small enough for a race bike seems to be difficult. I have been looking for one which would fit in place of my small lead-acid battery. All the power-tool batteries have strange connectors. The video camera batteries look as though some might be OK. For me, the whole world has gone crazy. Insurance issues mean motorcycles cannot be used on our local circuit, and the car guys have monopolised any practice sessions anyway. I am not prepared to drive hundreds of kilometers to encounter the same thing elsewhere.

If buying to have "in stock" for when your battery fails:

Lead/Acid not filled = forever
AGM never used depends on storage conditions - in a climate-controlled garage the worst I've had was a year and I had one for about three years that was fine when I installed it.
Shorai LFX18A1-BS12 (the only I use) again, I suspect, depends on storage conditions but I've never had one not work after sitting on a climate-controlled shelf unused. I buy 2-3 when I find a good deal and no telling when I will use them.

Thanks Greg - mine is an LFX21L6-BS12.
Good to hear your voice - sort of!!

Hi guys - havent been around for a while, as I've been doing other stuff.

Checking in as am getting ready for a cross country ride in a couple months, and my Shorai LFX is now 11 years old. It still tests 13.3v after a ride, however, I am thinking of doing some preventative maintenance as i don't want to have it fail in BFE.

But, since Shorai went under and were bought out last year they aren't exporting to NZ any longer.

I have built up shit in my battery box around the smaller size of the Shorai, and since I have had the CNW starter I normally don't have a kicker on the bike.

So, am looking for recommendations for a smallish battery with 270CCA+.

IDEAS?

Sorry - can't help with and alternative but...
You say Shorai "went under". Does that mean they're not in production any more?
Cheers & safe riding! 👍 👍

Well hello stranger !!

I used Odyssey batteries very successfully before becoming a Shorai guy.

Check out their powerport offerings to see if anything fits:

Hi Nigel, thanks will see if there are any down here.

HI David,
Good to see you back.
Aprilia's are now coming with "BS Battery" Lithiums, and the brand seem to be listed on some of the local online suppliers.
Snip below of the one in the Tuareg 660.

Hi Iain - these appear to be a rebrand of the Poweroad batteries. They have all the same dimensions, specs and appearance. I dont know anything much about these.

We should sync up on rally plans if you are going down this year?

Can't say about other countries, but the Amazon Shorai selection is better than ever. The 18s are the ones I use. They have LFX18A1-BS12 (Left Positive) and LFX18L1-BS12 (Right Positive) in stock now. They also have both of the LFX14 and they have the left positive of LFX21

I haven't checked lately, but WalMart online had all of them for $30 less last time I bought.

Lithium Batteries, as well as shock absorbers (gas charged) are considered Dangerous Goods by a lot of airlines and shippers, so you cant get a lot of those from the typical retailers.

You could try shipping me a new LFX18L1-BS12? :)

UPS will ship them after completing a lot of documentation, but I haven't been able to determine if that includes NZ and the cost is ridiculous. Have you tried to order from Amazon?

Yes, they wont show me anything when my shipping is set to NZ.
