Just coming on 3 days of rain here in my home town of Brisbane 11am yesterday I emptied 165mm out of my rain gauge and 70mm late in the afternoon, this morning the rain gauge was overflowing at 170mm the rain hasn't let up since yesterday first day was just light showers but now its been pissing down all night and this morning, glad I live on high ground and lots of roads even in suburbia are flooding, the whole east coast is copping it the rain came off the Coral sea, yes it is our wet season but 3 days and near 400mm and a lot of places have got even more.
Between Nambour and Gympie the main train line heading North a freight train has gone off the track as the rail ballast has washed away and no trains moving between there, few people have lost their lives from rising water a bike rider coming home from work up at Gympie at night ran straight into a flooded road he hit it at speed not seeing the water, they found his bike and gear 3 days ago and his body next day, fools in their 4x4s crossing flooded roads to be washed a way and a few young men took their 4x4 out to test it out, guess what had to be saved putting other people in danger to rescue them, and people in small cars who think their cars are subs, WTF some people are just idiots and there are some people who can't even get home.
I am glad I built a good drainage system around my shed/workshop as its still dry inside and my house is built on stumps and live on a slight slop, but the ground is so soaking wet.
I own a 4x4 Land Rover Defender and I am still staying home but some people just can't help themselves, even the main road heading North are cut off, might start building a ark lol.

With all the salt on the streets around here from snow melting efforts, I say Make It Rain to wash it all away so's I can go for my first rides on the year.

We don't get snow here in my neck of the woods, sun shine and rain is all we put up with we live in a dry country and our wet season can come between Nov to March anytime well in the sub tropics anyway, down south way they can have 4 seasons in just one day lol.
I am 63 years young and have never seen snow in my whole life, a little bit of rain don't stop me riding but this rain you can't get far with flooded roads.
Where the wife and myself went for a ride last week is now all under water in places (Stoney Creek out the back of Kilcoy).

That's a tough one alright. We had worst rain accumulation of past century some months ago...knocked out all the major highways, many bridges in the mountains and farmlands across much of this province. Not sure there is going to be much repaired for this riding season....

Some inexperienced drivers will charge into a flooded area.
The wake from doing this can wash up onto the motor and the air cleaner causing the motor to stall.
If they would just idle through the standing water, IF THEY REALLY HAD to go across the water, they would be less likely to stall and could possibly stop and back up when it became apparent it wasn't a good idea.
The other problem with these drivers going on partially flooded and closed roads it that the wake washes away the gravel shoulder. With the shoulder washed away, the asphalt road surface will not be supported on the sides and possibly underneath. It will then crumble and start to ruin the road.
 
The problem here is the rain has come down hard and quick 100mm (4" in the old measure) and the run off will come up quickly so the last day or so 400mm is near 16" and that's just here some places are well over that, rivers and creeks can be dry one day and with just a day or 2 of heavy rain can be flooded way over the banks cutting off towns and major hwy's and with this much rain 4x4s can be easy to float away, its the way of life here in Aussie land, floods, drought and bush fires, we got to put up with the good as well the bad, but us Aussies are good as well will look after anyone in need with a helping hand.
 
Those jolly fellows at the Met Office (and fellow'esses' perhaps?), when taking time out from getting the forecasts totally wrong, have taken to naming our 'storms'
In quick succession we've just had: Dudley, Eunice and Franklin, with Gladys waiting in the wings!!
In spite of their comical names (apologies for those that may share said monikers) we've had some pretty hairy days, with flooding and winds gusting to 122mph!!

Well its still raining hard here this morning at 7am the rain gauge is overflowing again just from over night from yesterday morning to 7am today we have had 600mm and now its raining harder and be surprised if the rain gauge is overflowing again since I empty it 3 hours ago the gauge hold 170mm so far we have had just on 1000mm in the last 4 days and that just in my home town of Brisbane other areas have had even more, our 2 largest water catchment dams have gone from just under 50% to over flowing in 2 days, roads are closed from flooding, shopping centres are closing as no one is moving.
We have copped a lot of major floods in our history and 74 was the biggest but this time its look to be a lot worst in such a short time 4 days solid so far and now we being hit with a thunder storm and the rain is belting down even harder, our 2 major dams here hold more water than Sydney Harbor alone and for them to go from 50% to full in such a short time is a big worry for our low areas of Brisbane and surrounding areas, our last major flood was in 2011 and this one is even worst.

It's been a bit wet over here too. The West coast of the South Island had it bad. Westport has been flooded out twice in the past 6 months. We had a 100 year rainstorm here in the wairarapa two weeks ago. But nothing like those Brisbane noes. It's is supposed to be very dry here in summer but the grass looks like a Taranaki dairy farm in the spring.

It can rain in the North of Oz. My sons house in Darwin had no gutters. The water fell straight on the ground because no gutter could keep up in the wet season.
 
Woohoo! My incantations to the rain gods have been answered....she's coming down now and washing all the salt away! Now just need to switch it off again.....
 
We are in "3rd winter" in Texas. We get several, interspersed with 80-90F days.

Today it's 36 and raining...
 
Well 2:30pm here and thinking the rain has eased up how wrong I was, just emptied the rain gauge again and another 150mm since 10am when I emptied it so close to 1300mm (1.3m) and the main Brisbane river is starting to flood, pontoons some with boats on have lost their mooring and floating down the river, some of these pontoons have very high pilons but the pontoons have just floated over the top and sent on there way down the river and out to Moreton Bay and with high tide and flood water the water level will get even higher fighting each other, they are now saying another 2 days of heavy rain, this rain front off the coast is moving so slow and is the reason we are copping it,
Its pissing down here again and my large Pawpaw tree has up rooted with fruit on it and have lost 4 big green Paw Paws and one left on the tree, I stood it up and lashed it to the fence to stop it falling again, the garden beds are so drenched so hope the tree survives.
 
Sorry for the bad/sad weather you folks having …. makes me feel lucky with the current temp here of -24C along with the foot of fresh snow on ground which fell last night ….
 
Well its stopped last night and the sun is out this morning we had so much water yesterday my drainage around my shed and the back of my house couldn't handle it all and the shed slab started to seep in, just over 1500mm in the last few days so hopefully will start drying out but more rain on its way, 7 people lost their lives from flooded water and 3 still missing, our dams are at 180% full and the flood gates will open when it reaches 200%, Wivenhoe Dam is designed and built for flood water was built after the 74 floods, but so far they haven't open the flood gates if they do then our major Brisbane River will flood more and there be more low lying homes lost in our city, our city is built beside the river.
Schools have been closed and people asked to stay home and only go out if you have to, workers have been asked to work from home if they can as so many roads are still closed or damaged, we have had floods before but not as quick as this time, usually after weeks of rain but this time was only 4 days of heavy rain.

Well spent the morning cleaning up all the drains around my shed, clears of leaf litter from the neighbors gum tree, I cleared it all about a week before the rain but with all the rain washed more leaf litter which in turn slowed the drainage down so all good now, been sunny all day but now the rain has gone over the border to NSW the rain front hasn't given up yet and we just had a shower storm here again, 1500 houses completely unindated in Brisbane alone and 14,000 people homeless and be a week before any clean up can start, but the mud army (normal everyday Queenslanders helping out others in need) will play a big part helping those who have lost everything and clean up the rotten mud once the water receeds.
