For most of my Norton's life it has been a everyday rider from new at the age of 17 and for the first 5 years was my only transport then in 1980 it had a short break when converting it to the Featherbed frame and was back on the road in 82 till 8 years ago, it has been my everyday rider most of that time as well my 81 Triumph Thunderbird, both bikes got ridden a lot, had the Thunderbird for 9 years then the Norton was the only bike ridden after that, it did have some small lay ups with more mods done to it and has clocked up over 160k miles on it now and 8 years ago bought my new 2013 Triumph Thruxton and the Norton became semi retired, I clocked up over 40K on the Thruxton and then upgraded to a 2016 Thruxton 1200S bought new old stock in 2018 and its now my everyday rider, I still ride the Norton regularly, but its still my play thing, sold the old Thruxton just recently as it wasn't being used much, the new Thruxton hasn't clocked up as many miles these days with this virus and all its just run in at 20k on the clock as my travels have been slowed down, the Norton is at the moment getting some more mods done to it going back to my old Amal carbs and is ready for firing again, but with all my other projects going on I am in no hurries as the Thruxton is always out.
Who said you will have plenty of time on your hands when you retire, after 8 years retired now I haven't slowed down with house renos, shed extensions, gardens, bikes and bikes and rebuilds for others 2 Norton's and one Shovel Head Harley so now no more working on others bikes only my own projects now, so this year hopefully will clock up more miles on the Norton as well the Thruxton.
