I am about to fire for the first time a new engine and I’m struggling to build oil pressure. I filled the pump with oil before I installed it and have losened the banjo bolts. Even after a hundred or so kicks I’m not seeing oil flow out of the banjos. FYI - I just installed the AMR modified cover and pump. Any tips on how to build pressure?

Did you prime the crankshaft?

By 100 kicks, you PROBABLY have an issue.

UNLESS (and I don't know for a fact) the AMR mod requires nominal running speed to overcome static pressure?

Either way, did you use cam assembly lube?

I've seen several reputable people answer "just start it up, you should have oil flow in a few seconds". I'd be a bit worried about cam lube by now, maybe pour 1/4 cup of oil down each valve inspection cap before firing it up.

@Yorkie I have no wish to insult you so please don't take it wrong, but are you sure you have the feed and return pipes connected the right way round?

Good question! I made the assumption that the oil lines were installed correctly.

did you fill the stand pipe the hoses attach to? and then gravity bleed the hose prior to connecting it?

That’s a great question and you’ll have to try harder than that to insult me! I have the pipe coming out of the bottom rear of the tank attached the outside oil feed pipe. The inside engine oil feed pipe is connected to the oil filter.

A few of points from my experience:

The gasket between the pump and the TS case, in my experience, needs a good look to see if the gasket isn't covering one or both of the galleries. I haven't seen this gasket cut correctly in over 15 years.

Did you replace the pump? Yes there are/is a few things you can do to improve pressure/scavenge. I am aware of how expensive the pumps are, but they are far less expensive than doing the job twice if you don't end up grenading the engine.

The AMR mod, as mentioned above, may be causing your issue, but after 100 kicks, maybe not?

Best.

Also, the gasket on the oil pump junction outside the case is a bad fit. I had to enlarge one hole, or it would have been partially covered.

If you have installed new piston/rings in new bores, I would recommend the use of "break-in oil".
Once for the first 100 miles.
Then again for 500 miles.

I primed the crank, poured oil down the pushrod tubes and after about 10-15 kicks it started to push oil through the banjo bolt. Thanks Gents
