Would somebody please post a photo of the seat fixings. Mine was like this when I bought it, I'm guessing some sort of captive nut? Size?

This seat has broken mounts.
The captive nuts have no where to attach.
Mine is much the same now, trying to figure out a better mounting solution.

Mine still has the mounts but the bolts kept falling out and I’ve stopped replacing them.
All seems quite secure wile riding and it is unlikely that anyone will know to or want to lift off the seat while you are parked.

If you had an older model , mine is a late 2014 you would see what Norton changed. There is a metal framework that is riveted to the seat pan. And they used a much tougher pan material as well . The change probably came after 2016 , not sure though. I will post a picture of mine. I also know this because I bought a seat with the Norton logo sewn in , and this is when I saw how they cheapened the seat construction . Because the bolts may fall out , owners tend to overtighten the bolts and crack off the plastic .

My 2018 model had the same issue. Thankfully it was under warranty so Rob Jameson kindly posted one to me after I sent him pictures. He said that a batch were like that and that someone in house had been over jealous trimming the mounting pieces when fitting the metal clips. My new one still looks a bit flimsy on these fixings to be honest, not the best of designs for a seat fixing.

My guess they saved money going with the clips and plastic. Even the seat pan material was stronger .

I never knew early bikes were like that. That’s a way superior design. Clearly the only reason for the design change was cost.

I bet the bean counter responsible never factored in the increased warranty cost of replacing broken plastic seat bases though !

The little plastic locating bar for the captive nut breaks. So I filled it with chemical metal then sat the saddle in position with one screw and carefully used a long drill through the frame bolt lug into the chemical metal, roughed up a M6 rivnut and bonded it into the hole.

I would like to make an alu. assembly rivetted to the underside then drill in as above and tap. On my little Kwaka there are 2 lugs at the back then one M6 accessible from the front of the saddle. Simple yet completely solid. Clever these Japanese......

That's very poor construction, it's difficult to comprehend some of these decisions... Start of the slippery slope. :(

Thanks for the picture, it's good to know what it's supposed to look like.. certainly not as good as Tony's earlier seat pan.

I actually didn't notice it wasn't secured to the frame until I tried to take it off, took me ages to figure it out!

As Fast Eddie says, far superior design, must have cost them in the long run..
