V4SS quality disaster

It's not clear to me why any of the existing V4 owners would want to take up any offer of a new TVS V4 at a discount. Surely they will just get their existing bikes fixed and brought up to standard if the claims have been approved by the administrator. If they were offered a straight swap yes but this offer is going to go down like a lead balloon surely?

If the cost of the repairs exceeds the original purchase price by or more than the discount and the liquidators pay out £1 for every £1 of debt then it works, but the first bike has to be scrapped with no repairs. But a lot of ifs, especially the liquidator payout. I know there are rumours of excess funds from property but liquidators can rack up big bills especially when they are involved for long periods, a Covid emergency is a good excuse to inflate the bills.

Yes, especially when owners have no way of knowing if the NEW V4's will be any better, or suffer other issues.
I think there will have to be V4 reviews and road tests performed by trusted publications before any of us can be certain that the new units have an acceptable level of reliability and durability.

There were reviews of the old V4… all of them absolutely gushing with praise.

Dunno how SG did it but he had the worlds MC press eating out of his hand !

I think that the desire was so strong for a the return of a British Norton that they couldn't help themselves ! Either could I , so I understand completely. But this time around it will be different and the press won't be as soft.

I would hope/expect that a global player like TVS will soak test and put the miles in on anything they bring to the market.
Given the history (both good and bad) and today's ruthless publicity, can they really afford to push out a lemon??
Unless they're relying on T shirt sales :)

Because it will be a totally different V4

Maybe, but BDO have been good bed fellows in the past, I wonder why.

BDO liquidated his fireworks outfits in the past, maybe they give him special treatment.

The offer from TVS seems to be a straight swap for the totally re engineered gen 2 bike them TVS will try to recoup some of the cost from the liquidators.

If that’s true then I’m seriously impressed …

All TVS is giving is an unspecified discount , they have also detailed all the faults and the costs to repair all these faults and liaised with the Liquidators so the customer can fill in a form with validated costs to join in a queue with other debtors at BDO with no engineers report needed.

But its not a simple straight swap.

It looks like TVS is expecting to get via the customer the cost of the repairs but first, the customer has to fill out the form and make the claim to BDO not TVS, the customer will hopefully get a proportion or all of the claim and then have a choice. Use the funds to repair the original bike but still risk its value plummeting and not being allowed on the road or use the funds to buy a new TVS bike at a discount and fully legal for use on the road. Somewhere there will be the additional cost of scrapping all the old bikes. I suspect the discount will be just enough to cover the disposal cost ensuring no parts or assemblies get back out plus the expected profit margin so to TVS is a cost free exercise but they make also no money.

The mug paying for most of this is Stuart Garner, which is the right person to be shafted ;) .

If the costs of repair is £35K per bike then that's £1.75M added to his bill.

I suspect the costs of repair will be inflated to say £55K, so every bike is a write off to justify full replacement and SG's bill becomes £2.75M, nice if that happens.

No, Garner will not pay anything, he was made bankrupt two weeks ago.
The straight swap looks good, but seeing as TVS have missed their get out of the deal clause anything they get from BDO will be a gesture of goodwill.
TVS will not repair the bikes as they will be the warranty for the repairs and I doubt they'll take that on.
Considering this issue raised its head post purchase of Garners empire I suspect TVS don't actually need to do anything about the V4, so it all looks like goodwill. Maybe TVS are motivated despite not having to responsible in any way by having their name on the tank, and smashed up bikes and customers would not be good for business.

TVS have reportedly said they will offer a straight swap of a brand new gen2 bike for a gen1.

When you have a source post it here, until then then best we have is

Which possibly will get owners a new bike but at SG's expense rather than TVS's, I cannot see TVS giving something away when they can get SG to pay instead and lose no goodwill.
Yes Garner will pay via the administrators but TVS will only be able to recoup a proportion of their costs but the goodwill benefits are immeasurable.

How? Garner was in administration, technically the business was no longer his. Once BDO had finished their business then he would get any monies left over, though I doubt there will be any.
TVS bought the embers from BDO, and it was on TVS to conduct their due diligence. Whether the issues with the V4 come to light prior to their May 2021 date at which they could have walked away from the deal is unknown, if it had they could have either walked or renegotiated.
Garner won't pay a penny, and due to shocking lack of due diligence conducted by TVS I doubt BDO will either.

No I meant he will pay indirectly as the money the administrators have was technically his, its money he won't be getting he technically pays.
