Parasitic battery drain.

If I fit a battery isolated switch is fitted to the battery earth lead would this stop the parasitic drain on the battery or is there another feed to the clocks.
My battery will stay charged for about two weeks MK 2 2016.
A friend has a 2018 bike that will stay charged for months.
As I don’t think that this is a battery problem but a drain problem.
My KTM 1290s has the same battery as the Norton with no such problems.

My 2018 would also sit for months with no ill effect, wonder if your mate bought mine !?

AFAIK that method of isolation would work, if the battery isn’t earthed, it cannot drain.

But the other question is, will isolating the battery cause any other issues by confusing any of the electrickery black magic ...?
 
The ECU should be protected by its chip memory not needing electric juice to stay there, but that may only protect the base settings and any learnt settings ie from the lambda sensors may be lost. On my old SAAB 9000 if you pulled fuse 5 then the learnt settings were lost and you went back to base, removing any ignition retardation learnt from the knock sensors, perfect after filling up with a full tank of hi octane after a spell on supermarket juice so you got full advance again.
 
This relates to the SC ECU, perhaps someone could find out what the Omex does. I spoke to SCS-Delta a few years ago and asked them which settings were retained by the ECU:

Q - Does the ECU learn and retain any settings?

A - Aside from referencing the stepper motor for idle control on each switch off, no.

Maybe it would be better to find what is causing the drain. Two weeks seems quite short. Have you tried measuring it?

[Edit] Maybe try swapping the KTM / Norton batteries and see if the drain follows the battery?

It seems quite predictable,
Have used three different batteries all good quality but the same result.
 
Sure it’s the speedo for some reason , a lot were replaced under warranty
Can you remember if it was the time clock or draining through the clocks.
If isolated the battery should never get discharged!!! and all would be well with the world.
 
Would it be easier to switch the optimate/clocks fuse circuit ?
Will need to identify fuse.

I’m sure most modern bikes need to be on a tender,
my Guzzi neaded to be ,just the Norton seems to drain quicker.

Yes , I understand fully. Those out of specification (excessive current draw) instruments should have never been installed or at least replaced by Norton. I have read that in most cases it is a defective stepper inside , a good one will draw under 1 ma . David C. said they knew about this early on but were letting them through anyway. I am sure in the end it all came down to cost , how much it would have cost them . :(
 
Tony, do you think the fact that Norton's solution to the flashing Neutral light and Fuel light ( too low value resistors from permanently live supply) would also cause this?

I have done the Coote fix and had no battery issues.

YES , If it is installed the way Norton shows it . 1 K Ohm tied directly to battery unswitched. Look at the drawings I posted from David C.

I = E/R , 12volts/1,000 ohms = .012 amp = (12 milliamps)

This is for only the one resistor , if you installed two of them (fuel light and neutral light) their way , then double the current (24 ma) parasitic draw ! OUCH !
 
A leaky diode anywhere can cause such a drain. I recently had one such drain in the alternator of my 77 farm truck.

You can isolate the drain by disconnecting the earth wire servicing the appliance, while monitoring the current drain at the battery.

To measure the current drain at the battery, connect a VOM in series with the earth side of the battery. Use the most sensitive current scale.
