Current production Norton 961 Parts

I have just received these new parts from Norton. I can now finish my quick change sprocket project . I will be mounting a 48T Talon sprocket for my long trips and this will save me some time to switch over. Notice the weld coloring and the welded on extensions now used for the down pipes . I like the look of the welds and the fact that my sprocket carrier is pre-assembled . You still have to use a bank transfer to buy the parts so that increases the costs. I am not complaining too much because I still am happy I can get parts . I would ask if a UK member could let us know how they buy their parts and does it involve a bank transfer ? Or can you have a dealer order them now if you live in the UK ? Thanks .

The welds look great. But it makes no sense why it’s not a one piece tube instead of 3. I know the welds are good, but no welds would be nicer and no chance of cracking. Again I know it’s a quality weld, just speaking out loud.
I used to work in a tube bending manufacturing industry. This could easily be made.

Maybe that's why they stopped using the crossover on the x-pipe ? Easier to make ? Do your de-cat pipes look like these or the crossover type ? If anyone has used the crossover de-cat x-pipe and then changed to this new design and noticed any performance change ?

Cost of tooling for the limited number would explain why it is welded.

Tony it was Bk Transfer when I paid for my service and chain guard but that incurs zero cost from within the UK as there is no currency conversion. You might want to set up a Bk Account in the UK in GB Pounds for the long term

On my commando I have the decat pipe that looks like the catted pipes but they are gutted. I also have a set of SBN decat X pipes.
I doubt either will show a difference in power on a dyno though.

If you’re referring to my post, I’m not saying they don’t have the tooling. I’m saying it’s odd that they would take the time and money to produce a exhaust that is welded in a total of 4 sections when it could be faster, cheaper and easier to produce without welding.
I doubt they make the exhaust on house, so I guess I am saying they don’t have the tooling lol.

But the pipes Tony has just purchased is still a nice quality piece.

You can get rid of the brown staining with phosphoric acid solution, only needs to be 5 or 10%, wet the area with the solution, leave for 5 mins and then wipe with a nylon scouring pad. Check the pads do not scratch the finish first in an unseen area. In the UK stainless sink cleaners are 5% phosphoric acid.

Some charge percentages of currencies when transferring different currencies.
One high st UK building society doesn't do that if you have an account with them.

and in the UK you are not allowed to have an account running in Euros, possibly unless you have a massive salary?

My reply to Tony was a bit tongue in cheek. In theory you can set up an account anywhere but it would only make sense if you were earning local currency to put in it otherwise you are stuck with costly exchange rates. When I was working for an American firm I was in the share purchase scheme and could have had any dividends paid in US$ into a $ account... ok if I was spending it stateside but otherwise useless.

I purchased the decat pipes from my local Norton (500 miles away) dealer. Shipped to my home in about a week. They were great getting parts I need. That was pre-takeover days. I need to reach out and see how things are now.

I picked up this head from Norton UK a little while back. It needed some casting flaws polished out , but now its ready for the machine shop valve job .

The combustion chamber can best be described as a "bathhtub" type with a relatively narrow included valve angle .

Tony, would you consider having the head flow bench tested?
I wonder how much gains could be made by porting a head on the 961. Adding more compression and cams would definitely raise HP/TQ.
