Bosch parts

I'm quite surprised I wasn't able to fine these at AutohausAZ. Bought my Bosch sensors from them. Not quite worried at the moment.

Are you saying the Bosch Injectors were not available ? If so , you can always amazon ? Time will tell what the future holds for the Norton 961 and parts availability . Keep your eyes on Theil Motorsports , David C. , and the Norton friendly dealers for more future information. Does anyone know what will come of the administration process and will anyone step in ? What I think is a shame is the parts supply chain was already in place , one just needs to pick up from here.

Long Answer

The Administrators and their bosses The Metro Bank have been left with huge debts and little in the way of assets, the Trademarks for all but the UK are owned by Norton America LLC which is owned by SG. As Norton America LLC is registered in the US then a legal action would have be taken by the UK Metro Bank in the US, the grounds for the action would be dubious and cross jurisdiction court cases are fraught with difficulty.

Short answer

Nothing will happen as there is nothing to sell. So expect no phoenix.

Wow.

Credit where it’s due, SG has pulled a master stroke.

He’s clearly a clever bloke, just a pity he put it all into being a bloody crook.

Just done the 1st service on my 961, no big surprises, a few bits in the eng. oil strainer & on the trans. plug, no big deal. Couldn't get a Bosch filter but the Mann equiv. less but deeper folds, no worries. Switched to Castrol while I was on, all good. For Al SG'gs faults, at least we have crackin' bikes out of the shambles!

Bosch Injectors arrived, chalk n cheese to the units fitted originally to the bike, definitely knockoffs, look so cheap compared to these Bosch ones.

The intellectual property , the established supply chain , An established design of which many have been made ? This is more than nothing . But as you stated , the business was run completely on borrowed money we think . And not enough profit made to pay the bills. It has been said that the cost of the 961 needed to be double what was charged to be sustainable . There may be an opportunity for the secondary market , but if SG doesn't let that happen (because he want to be paid) we are going down with the ship . All of it was borrowed money ! Incredible , the racing , the shows , the employees pay . In the beginning I was very hopeful , I thought SG was rich and could carry us (Norton) through it. He is rich if compared to me or most regular people , But not rich like Bloor . And let's say he was rich like Bloor ; Would he even have taken on the Norton venture in the first place ??

SG sold the design of the 961 plus all the rights to manufacture a few weeks before the crash to a Chinese company. That left the 650 and the 1200, the 650 was already a joint venture with a Chinese company. So even less left over and no doubt the remaining rights such as the 1200 live with Norton America LLC leaving exactly Zero.

Just got back from a blast up the valley, OMG massive difference having the genuine BOSCH injectors, idle's great (AIC disabled cause it sucks) pulled like a train with no flat spots and transition from closed to open throttle is much smoother and not jerking as much.

Well worth the dollars and the hour to change them out.

Just looking for BOSCH O2 sensors now and I'm all BOSCHED up !!

Visually, the accelerator position sensor is the same as that of my Guzzi Griso
I ordered a TPS off a Harley distributor with a part number I acquired off the forum only to find it worked in the opposite rotation (27629-01A). Replaced with one from Norton. Replacing all sensors as and when next are the O 2 sensors does any body have the correct part number.

How did you disable the AIC.
Did you have your ECU unlocked by SCS?

As I live in QLD the cold starts not really needed, a simple plugging of the pipe that connects to the air box. AIC and the ECU can chat away but no effect at all.

ECU to unlock is like $250GBP and $150GBP for the cable if you want to play + shipping, Lets say $50GBP shipping, that's $1kAU

Plug, 10c AU bargain right..!! can also re attach, I have noticed even when warm that pipe has a small suction as it sits bridged across the inlet manifold so I think its just a poorly thought out solution, plug it and test for yourself.

Bosch parts

I had always wondered why I was clocking up the miles on my 2017 CR with no performance or idling issues yet other lower mileage bikes were suffering. I assumed that all the parts fitted would be the same (ie bought in bulk in large quantities) and working almost 100% reliably for several years. I'd hear complaints of non Bosch parts but when I looked all mine seemed legit. I even asked Skinner directly and he denied it with 'why should we save a few quid on an expensive bike?'. This random mixture of real/fake parts would rather explain it. Lots of chat about Garner, wonder how Skinner fitted into all this as he was responsible for the engineering.

It could be asked to be proven that these transactions were legal, check the legislation here and in the US, the company own the IP, for it to move to Garner himself then there needs to be a record of it moving from the company to him, which both Norton America and NMUK Ltd would need records to prove it. Sadly BDO don't have a clue around IP, or much else it seems. If challenged Garner would need prove it was his personally to actually sell / licence out, and not the company he owns / owned. TM and IP come under the same legislation but movements of each need to be recorded separately.

The rules are strange but very clear. Even if you work for a company and design something then that design belongs to you, it only belongs to the company if you are paid by, and have a contract saying such, with that company to design / create it for that company.

If the paperwork is in place then he has played a blinder on an outdated design.

The UK company I worked for was bought by a US company. They took ownership of the TM and other IP to the US, we then had to pay a monthly licence fee to the US head office. They did this legally and it also moved profits out of the UK and over to the US.

And what could have stopped Garner swapping boxes of genuine Bosch parts for pattern imports when everyone had gone home, remember he lived over the shop and was quite au fait with pulling scams like this?
If your bike was made on a Monday morning . . .
