I hooked up my scanner to the OBD port for the first time, and discovered two error codes, P0335 and P0340, listed as crankshaft position sensor A malfunction and camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction Bank 1, resp. The bike seems to run OK, so I'm wondering if these are common error codes for the bike. I plan to delete the codes and see if they return after riding it a bit more. I only have 450 miles on the bike so far.

Based on Richard-7's advice, I already have a new Bosh cam sensor on order, but I wonder if I also need to look into a replacement crankshaft positon sensor. Anyone else experience this problem?

What OBD scanner do you use and where can I purchase one

I had the crankshaft position error everytime I pulled my codes yet my bike runs perfect!
I went all out on my Blue tooth reader. $8.95 on E-bay, works perfect!

Hi - I wonder what scanner you use - there are so many postings on this and NOC forums of errors which should be diagnosable through the OBD codes. On the NOC forum someone had a 'cranks but wont start' issue on an almost new bike which turned out to be the crank sensor yet the engine light did not come on. Is your engine light on?

Just noticed another post by BPHORSEGUY who uses Torque s/w....

I was told by Steve at Gold Coast, that sometimes when I start the bike and it runs a little funny is because the crankshaft was out of position. This doesn't happen often, but occasionally. Starts, runs a little weak, stalls. Just turn it off and restart, voila!

Engine light did not come on.

Hi. Had my first error code at the weekend. 2016 Mk11 sport.Turning the ignition back on after a short run of around 15 miles the oil light and neutral light began to flash with a message reading something like 'Unit Warning' ? The bike started fine and i rode off. Within a few seconds the panel reading reverted to normal although it had zeroed my trip mileage. Checked it a couple more time during the day and all was fine.
Mark.

I've had that happen to me quite often as well as I couldn't scroll throught the pages of the digital display. Factory told me it was the switch. When switches go, they go. Not a random problem like that. Turns out that only happens to me when the battery gets week, like when the bike spent 7 months at the dealership off the tender and again after 3+ years when one of the cells went bad. Changed the battery and it doesn't happen anymore. Go figure. Someone else on this forum mentioned it could be low voltage. I think they were correct.

Strange as it may seem I've just fitted a new battery. The old one gave up after two years. Symptoms were as others have experienced. Click click click when attempting to start. Put on the tender/charger would spin over but would not fire up. Fitted new battery all is fine. First time out for good run since fitting coil, leads and plugs upgrade starts and runs much better but now and very annoyingly I have this fault showing up. Its just another niggle in the back of your mind whilst riding, "am I going to make it home" I'm sure its all fine and will give it another good run this weekend.

Cleared the codes and took a short 20 mile test ride. Still no engine light, but the camshaft positon sensor error code is back. No error code on the crankshaft position sensor yet, but I'll put a few more miles on it and see if it stays gone.

Forgot to mention, I didn't check for codes. After a while it would normalise. It makes tracking gas consumption more difficult so I always check my ODO at fill up. I usually just rely on the trip page that I zero out when filling the tank.

Resurrecting an old thread.

Ken,

How did this work out for you?

I keep clearing the codes and riding and keep getting both 335 and 340 codes back again.
The bike is hard to start sometimes, but runs and idles just fine once warmed up.

I wonder if there is something about cold running that generates the code, then once the engine warms up and reaches thermal stability, the problem is gone.

Weird!

Error codes are not always what they seem.
In a previous job with Diesel engines I could have several error codes but truck would run fine. What they can do is point you in the right direction ie,
throttle pedal fault could be wire to throttle pedal,
Also sensors do not always work then not work,a sensor can work when cold but if it has a crack in it will break down when hot.
Crack expands,
As I often got told,
It must be easy the computer tells you what’s wrong!

Seems like this sensor business is like a riddle wrapped up in an enigma, and obscured by a shadow.:D
God bless EFI.

Pretty sure my bike showed the same codes. Might be caused by the ECU not being correctly configured i.e. thinks a sensor is installed that is not.

Talking about the UNIT WARN, I had the same thing happen a few days ago. The voltage on the display was acting weird. Key on - just over 12v then it would just start to drop down to around 11.5v. Replaced the battery, same thing. So there's either a fault in the dial or there's a significant voltage drop occurring somewhere in the wiring. I'm still looking into it and will post when I've figured it out. Searching in this forum showed others have suffered similar symptoms but there didn't appear to be a definitive answer as to why. I'm starting to meter out the loom so should have an answer in the not to distant future.

My problem with low battery found to be plug going into rectifyer not making contact. Bike ok when started after being on tender but after riding a while voltage dropped due to not charging. Ok after wriggling the connector no problem since

That's not it in my case. Once running the voltage goes up to what I'd expect to see i.e. between 13 and 14.5v.

UNIT isn't a warning, it is one of the display inputs that allows you to change the settings in the LCD which you can toggle through. I had this regularly whenever my bike wouldn't start first time and subsequent attempts took the voltage way low (LOWV on the display), seems the lcd then throws a fit. I then kept my battery on permanent trickle and eventually changed to lithium. I haven't had this problem since those first few months

My battery discharge problem was eventually traced to a bad stepper motor in the speedo which was swapped under warranty.
