Hi 961ers.
I have a 2014 mk1. (Second hand ) When I switch on the ignition I have never seen an engine management light in the clocks.
Should there be one before fire up and then disappear after starting, or a light come on if a problem occurs.

Thanks
Peter.

Peter,
The short answer is yes - the EML illuminates with the key and goes off with when the bike starts.
Not coming on is not necessarily an indication of an issue but it is there to help protect the engine from going bang when there is a problem -get the dealer or Norton HQ to check and resolve

Hi.
Thanks for your reply.
On ebay uk
eBay item number:
293179648638
It shows the ignition on, engine not running according to the Rev counter and only showing neutral and oil light.
The same as mine.

Engine management light.
Peter,
This is from the handbook - mine is an 18 so others with an earlier bike might be able to confirm what one of us is saying...

On the Mk2 the engine light stays on until engine is started. I noticed that the mileage displayed was on the 'trip', it would be odd if the trip was never reset in all those miles!

On my November 2014 Sport , My EML does NOT come on with the key. This may be a OMEX feature ? My manual says the same thing as Johns but I have never seen the light on. Maybe Richard-7 can tell us if his recent upgrade to OMEX operates that way ?

2016 Mk2, Omex ecu and my EML does not come on with ignition, must work out a way to test it perhaps disconnect a sensor and turn on.

For UK car MOT's in 2018 the EML light became part of the test,

h. Engine MIL inoperative or indicating a malfunction

So if it does not come on when key is inserted or comes on and does not go off when engine starts its a fail.

Worrying if it comes onto bikes and is retrospective to cover ECU's where the light does not come on.

Nor on my '13. I've never seen an EML on mine.

This is our answer , maybe only the newest machines work this way with the latest black OMEX ECU ? Thank you.
