Hells Angels Euro Run: Thirty-four arrested at anniversary event

A total of 12 people - five German nationals, three Hungarians, one Swiss, one French, one Czech and a Greek - were charged.

The arrests were made on suspicion of drugs offences and possession of offensive weapons.

Earlier this week, Surrey and Sussex police were granted powers to stop and search people within a designated area across the two counties in a bid to tackle anti-social behaviour.

So riding a bike and wearing a patch is now considered anti social, how long before the patch isn't necessary?

Haven’t heard that victim mentality stuff for years!

The knives and drugs found show that the stopping and searching was the right thing to do. No-one was charged with riding a bike or wearing fancy dress.

Don't know how it works in the UK but in the US you can't use the results of a search as the justification.
How many law abiding members had their rights infringed upon in the process?
It IS arguable that by willfully joining a "gang" knowingly associated with illegal activity you forfeit some legal rights.
I would still argue that if you don't witness illegal activity you have no reason bothering people peacefully assembled. For the record I think biker "gangs" are silly.

Silly is a good word for it.

Does no-one get stopped by Police and searched in the US?

The police over here can do pretty much whatever they want whenever they want. They can stop and frisk you if they have probable cause to believe you are involved in criminal conduct. The list of what constitutes a justifiable search includes "acts strangely or is emotional, angry, fearful or intoxicated" as you can see, heavily up to the interpretation of the officer.

Here in NYC there is a controversial "stop and frisk" policy that basically led to the NYPD being able to stop and search anyone they considered suspicious. Peaking at roughly 700k searches in one year, 90% young black or lation men. Stop and frisk is now generally considered unconstitutional with numbers now around 10k annually.

In Australia now each state GOVT. have brought in anti bikie laws across the country, in my state of Queensland the GOVT at the time started the changes, the outlaw clubs were getting bigger, there were more troubles between the clubs and fights were broken out in public areas where families of normal people were getting caught in the middle, club members getting ambushed in the streets and revenge attacks were getting more voilent, something had to be done and the GOVT brought in the anti bikie laws here, club houses where raided and close down, patch wearing was band in large groups and more than 3 bikies were together they get locked up, they also cracked down on associates of the club, but the worst thing they did was forcing them not wearing their patches as it made the bikie clubs go underground, so anyone riding a Harley was in the sights of the police and I mean everyone that owned a Harley even everyday owners and riders of a Harley, full record checks and photos were taken of any tattos and check ups to see if anyone was associates of any clubs.
After the first 12 months things started to settle down but the clubies were still hit hard, no club members are allowed to own Tatto shops, once normal Harley riders were proven to not be associates the harsment stopped of law abiding Harley riders.
The other states soon followed with these anti bikie laws, but it hasn't stopped them, they just dug their holes deeper, they still being caught doing drugs and most big drug raids are bikie influence with guns being siezed as well in the raids and bikie or club patches being taken off them, but most of the drug dealers were mostly associates or want a be member of the clubs, they have to prove themselfs and the long term member are still involved but rearly get caught, the club houses are still closed down and they are still having their secret get togethers and it just made it harder for the police to catch them out, but its not hard to pick the bikies on their Harlies when out on the road, they might not be wearing their patches but there are other thing they wear or do that set them out from others.
The crack down was long over due as the major clubs were forcing small clubs to merge into super clubs and were getting stronger and something had to be done.
I think the rest of the world police force was keeping a close eye on our anti bikie laws.

Thirty-four people have been arrested as thousands of Hells Angels bikers gathered to commemorate the club's 50th anniversary in the UK.

Reality.
Up to 700 bikers had been due to take part, but police said there were fewer participants than expected.

Only transport from 2007 to 2017 was a motorcycle, from 2007 to 2019 I have been stopped three times by the Police over one territory and three states.

I think it was last year on a rainy Sunday wasting time on You Tube.... You know where the topic starts moving further and further away from where you started.

It ended up on routine traffic stops in the US, maybe an hour of it, all had one thing the same.
All said it was their civil right to not roll down the window, to not show the license (they did not have) to not be identified by name or otherwise.... Its my right they said.
All went from a routine stop of show your valid drivers license and be on your way... All those (police) You Tube video's started with aggressive behaviour by the drivers that THEY escalated to the part where they end up dead.
You can't help some people.

Nobody deserves to die because they refused to roll down their window.
The people in those videos will claim to be "sovereign citizens" which is basically bullshit made up by idiots who are too dumb to learn/defend their ACTUAL rights. Please don't mistake them for a majority...

Roll down your window and place your hands on the top of the steering wheel.

Show the officers respect, and they will reciprocate. Might save you a citation as well.

Pete, I meant to add there might have been a couple who said that but the majority were people who have been brainwashed into thinking they can paint the world with their civil rights paint brush.
You have to earn the right.

I come from a country where the Police do not carry firearms openly, where bank and security guards are not armed etc etc... In nearly 60 years I have had no problems to date.
You know why I never learned to be a racist, because my parents never told me to.
There will always be people who no matter their actions will have an excuse to justify what they do.
It is what it is.

J ... Some weeks back I was returning from a ride, came off the motorway, the light goes green as I come up to some cars two deep so split between them slowly... Next set of lights are red.... no real traffic so give the DCT a bit of squirt then roll off a bit, only to see a white motorcycle with rider in a green vest way back in the mirror, about the time I thought, is that a 'cop, the red and blues came on............ He was kind enough to stop and inform me I had done 82 km/h in a 70 zone (50 mph in a 40) and maybe I should watch my speed.
We had a great chat and I was on my way home., well behind him at the speed limit all the way to Bribie.

Not a victim mentality, just fed up with lazy policing.

I see you are from Thurso, a town with its own drug and knife crime problems,

Just like the rest of the country really and what are the police doing about it? Perhaps they have no easy targets or the drug dealers have them in their pay.

Yes drugs and knifes and even guns are illegal, but like as not the run would have gone without incident and provided a spectacle for all to see, but the lazy police just have to poke the dragon and then crow about finding a few drugs and knifes, whoopy doo, what else happened on the run? small number plates, no tax?

Serious crime is happening all over the UK and it goes unaddressed because the police are basically just waiting to collect their pensions, get your house burgled, have a crime number, have your car or bike stolen, you had better find it yourself because if the police find it you will need a load of cash if you want it back from them.

Our town recently got two more police to keep us safe, one to walk the streets in a hi-vis and another with a speed gun to pay for their wages, a total waste of space.

but they do need to show the public that they are still keeping them safe, so the stop and search for the run was just propaganda, but does not address the real problems.

It looks like the guys from abroad were the ones that were arrested and charged but was it necessary, no victim no crime.

The clamp down on bikes has started and as usual it isn't about the trouble makers, too much work involved to catch the law breakers just stop all bikes.

This from 2016 and Without looking I guess this kind of thing has spread to other areas.

Very true give the police respect and you get respect back, I learned that a very long time ago, when they had the crack down with outlaw bikies all my Harley riding mates got pulled over but once they were found to be just normal motorcycles riders and not assocated with clubies and it was recorded on the police data they been right since unless they do something wrong of course.
I have dealt with some really good cops over the years but I have alse dealt with some very nasty ones who won't listen or just a law above everyone else, or power goes to their heads, but I still hold back and cop it sweet, I have also been booked for things I didn't do just because I ride a bike but that was in my younger days.
There are good and bad on both sides.
By the way there is always speed cameras on the way to Bribie everytime I go there so never speed that way lol.

In the news article it states that the police had applied for, and been granted, ‘stop and search powers’ specifically for this event.

Guys, the Hells Angels is (some argue) and organised crime gang. The police were expecting over 700 to turn up. The law of averages tells you there’ll be more knifes and drugs per head count in that 700 than there will be in Sainsbury’s buying groceries!

Doesn’t look like lazy or anti bike policing IMHO.

It does look like anti drug, anti knife, anti gang policing though.

I’ve been biking (legally) for 35 years and have been stopped plenty of times. Never been searched though.

As for any link between me and Thurso, don’t believe everything you read on the internet!

I’m still glad they nabbed those idiots who were bringing knives and drugs to a motorbike run.

The rest of your prose about policing reminds of of what I said earlier:

Triton Thrasher said:
Sometimes I think they don’t arrest enough people.

Ah, but what about Lidl. :D
