The second part of this video is more interesting than the first. I didn't think it was still on the web :

You're right Alan - gets more interesting after the 24ish minute mark.
Thanks

I always wonder about Bob Mcintyre and Oulton Park. He was killed there during a road race. The circuit looks very innocuous. When you lose the top guys in road racing, there is usually something very wrong. One of my mates was at the top in the early sixties, his philosophy is that you have to be simply unlucky to get the chop. For myself, I have only ever had one incident in which I believe I might easily have been killed, and I have crashed many times at high speed.

I like that stuff a bunch.

I love it too, but there is probably no way back. A sound of singles race class with a 500cc capacity limit, might go close to recreating it. I love the Landsdowne Series. I watch it on Youtube and it really gets my adrenalin flowing. I would love to be doing that with a Molar Manx or a G50. It is fast enough to be dangerous, but slow enough to be safe. I would not go near the Northwest 200, one of my mates rode in it and saw a guy killed in front of him. There are too many solid objects around the circuit.

Those obstacles do leave a mark if one survives. It takes 'Real Balls' to race some of those circuits with a mind to win....All with none of this new tech backing you up.

Here's Jack Brett doing his mail deliveries - not too much air between him and the box considering how fast he's going! (see first photo below)

BTW - why do they call it the North West 200 when it is actually closer to the east coast of Ireland? (see second photo below)

Penal colony race series :eek::D
Spot on!
P.C.R.S. - could also stand for "Pommies Can't Run Shite!"
Sorry - my behaviour is unforgivable - probably why I was banished here!

It I really funny here. Because of our convict heritage, collectivism is one of the most fundamental of Australian values, yet our politicians promote individualism. That undercurrent is very strong but resides mainly in our subconscious. In the end it means that graft and corruption get done over. But we always love a good joke. Scammers such as Alan Bond who got caught, but did his time - they are our heroes.

Hi Acotrel, firstly thank you for that link, the Films are Really fascinating.
Regarding the innocuous Oulton Park that is true, but I believe McIntyre hit a tree. I raced there a few Times in the early eighties. The big difference then to the Film in 1962 was that practically all the trees had gone from the Track side.

All the best,

Martin

I am used to looking at race circuits from on-board. Oulton Park looked OK in that video. I would not avoided riding there. I'm amazed that it killed someone as competent as McIntyre. Of course he might have bounced off another competitor ad speared off. In the old days, it was common practice to just place a straw bale in front of a tree.
When I race, even on a safe circuit such as Winton Motor Raceway, there are certain places where I don't stick my neck out.
