I have recently brought a 1965 Atlas engine number 20112231P . I tried to post a photo but something went wrong will try again . My question is to the forum did this model come with a ignition key or not ? Also the original tank badges are missing does any one here know where to obtain them the threaded mounting holes in the tank have been bogged and painted over but can be cleaned out .It has a 19 inch rear wheel I believe it should have been an 18 inch but not certain .Any info would be appreciated Atlas is new to me as I have always had Commandos so please excuse my ignorance re this model . Thanks in advance Norton Dave .

I believe that you're in luck as our very own poster... Madass140 (Don Pender) makes tank badges.

I have a pair of Dons tank badges & they are chrome plated brass & very good quality. Mine needed a slight tweek to get them to sit properly against the tank, but it didn't need much. The screw holes in the tank are 3BA. Most Atlas models had a K2F magneto witch doesn't require an ignition switch, but I think some later bikes had a distributor which did. The standard rear wheel size was 18" to the best of my knowledge.

650 manxman started the 18" rear wheel on slimlines... then Atlas took over 18" until the end.
However, IAW the parts books, other slimlines in that time frame shows 19" rear like the 62 88SS I am building. Flanged alloys were also a factory option.
My 68 Atlas was built by Dunstall and had been built with 19" rear (and front) Borrani.

Instead of an ignition switch there should be a pretty crude (paper insulator) button style kill switch on the handlebars. So start the bike without having to switch anything on and stop it by grounding out the magneto with the kill switch. A 1965 should also have a fork lock on the top triple tree. Anyone who wants to steal the bike will need a van or truck. No one knows how to kick start a bike anymore - just like no one can steal a manual transmission vehicle in the US anymore (just a slight exaggeration).
