Norton in trouble?

You guys are killin' me. I haven't had such a good laugh in quite awhile! Voodoo and Fast Eddie need to take their act on the road. I'm thinking straight to the Strip in Vegas..sort of a modern day Abbott and Costello or Laurel and Hardy for the aging motorcycle crowd.
Lmao!
Glad we can lighten the mood and provide a laugh.
I always liked Eddie!

Voodoo, I think we’d be more like ‘Peter Cook and Dudley Moore’.

Here we are drinking some proper beer (hope the humour translates) I can even visualise our two 961s parked outside the pub...

Its all in the Delicious Tonic ! I started my my 961 today because I wanted to hear it running . I will be driving it soon , can hardly wait . Love the video by the way !

That's me or my knee's should I say . Aging , I mean my knees hurt on the stairs especially . They are going to have to drag this bike out of my hands . If i have to explain you wouldn't understand as the HD boys say.

Nigel , how did this thread get from norton in trouble ,but not in trouble to a peter cook & Dudley Moore sketch?, it really is like Chinese whispers on ere sometimes, start chatting bout one thing ,then decends into almost the bowels of British comedy, I say almost cause u & voodoo could of taken off “Derek & Clive “, now that would be front row seats & a knock at the door from the vice squad,if u not head of “ derek & Clive “ then don’t ask me

Why?

Becasue the original story was a total nonesense, so nothing of any importance or relevance is being derailed here.

It is being treated with the contempt it rightly deserves.

A Peter Cook and Dudley Moore sketch is just as relevant as the original article (ie it’s not in the slightest bit relevant) ... but it’s more entertaining...!

This topic is like the return to the early years. Nortons are rubbish, Stuart Garner is a conman, the Factory is going Bust!!!!. Criticizing the Atlas etc is pointless as I cant imagine any Forum member is young enough to be the target market, I know it's not a bike for me,and the V4 is only for the lucky and wealthy few (again, not me) , and as usual, the worst comments appear to come from the classic brigade who would never buy one anyway. If you cant look after it yourself, and haven't got a local dealer that can service a Push Rod Twin !!! or you can't wait a week for Parts, buy a Honda, and lets face it, if you can afford any modern Norton, it's unlikely to be your only bike so if it breaks, wait 'till it's fixed. If the Factory is in trouble, then it's Stuarts money not yours, and if it's not in trouble then, as Mark Twain said " The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated". And when the figures are finally published, please don't start a discussion about the £billions of loss as I'm guessing the accountants know what they are doing

So basically what you’re saying is Norton design team sucks and they are broke.
And us Americans have no taste?
Not to mention you’re also saying only America has pimps, rappers, and hipsters.

Oh! and Norton didn’t design the 961 street.

I’d love to get my hands on a V4 carbon or polished aluminum. You need to stop calling it “chrome” chrome is a plating process.

The Atlas is a nice bike. I prefer the Nomad.

But what do I know? I’m an American with no taste!
I love steak, cold drinks and beautiful woman.

Did I say Americans have no taste? Paranoid would fit though.

I also didn't say only America has Rappers and Pimps or even Hipsters, however they do have plenty of each, so if there are no dealers, where are they going to buy the bikes?

The "chome" isn't al-u-min-ium :) it is carbon that has been painted with, and from the Norton sales brousure :using a special silver-impregnated paint which is incredibly difficult to work with . The finished effect looks like chrome.

True Norton didn't design the street, our very own ex heroin addict Henry Cole had something to do with that, I still say it looks good though.

The design team are not bad, the V4 the Superlight and the 961s (didn't an American design that one though?) look good but to paint the V4 to look like chrome, makes it look rank to me. The figures say Norton is £1.6m in the red, so coupled with strugling to supply bikes, then limiting ones that would sell, to a run of 50, pricing the V4 and the Superlight out of the normal persons market and to top it all the Atlas is ugly, and not a Norton but a Zongshen which makes it Chinese, which will affect sales until it is a proven product. It does make me wonder how they are going to prosper. Mind you I did state that I don't understand big business so what do I know?

Now then, back to this taste thing!!!

Norton in trouble?

If the Factory is in trouble, then it's Stuarts money not yours,

Arguing about anything on a forum can only ever amount to a bit of fun, but I bet there are quite a few ex-suppliers that would take issue with that statement.

I’m curious.
What kind of Norton do you own?
Are you always a conspiracy theorists?

I have often wondered why is it that you spend a boat load of money on a new motorcycle only to spend even more to make it work for you? Re-working the seat so it is more comfortable instead of being a vinyl covered rock! My first Commando was a Hi-Rider so I know about vinyl covered rocks! Bars, need risers to make the ride a bit more comfortable then you need longer cables and hoses. I have often thought that just because a designer can do it on paper and make it look good doesn't make it so.
I currently own 4 Norton's 58 to 74, and AJS and a Matchless along with a Suzuki V-Strom, the most uncomfortable one to ride long distance is the V-Strom and that is after having the seat re-worked.

Absolutely!

You don’t have to be much of an ‘expert’ about any given niche within our hobby to know that a lot of what is written in the motorcycle press is pretty shoddy stuff.

They clearly spend more time on pictures and thinking up witty headlines and sound bites than they do on actual journalism.

If this is representative of the press as a whole, then gawd ‘elp us! It really is becoming difficult to sift through the fake from the real news these days.

This fake news thing is like we’ve gone backwards a few hundred years to when all ‘news’ was spread, unchecked, via word of mouth. Especially with regards to the whereabouts, and obvious guilt, of witches and sorcerers!

But hey... that’s progress...!
.....send three and four pence we’re going to a dance....!

Over the years I have spent what amounts to the National Debt of a small country on my bikes. With the notable exception** of an HID bulb on my MV, I can guarantee that every single part has made whichever bike it was for, less reliable, handle worse, less comfortable, anti social, worse on fuel, attract the "Old Bill", annoy the Wife, destroy midrange, ruin the idle, cause breakdowns, spray water in my face and on one memorable occasion pour boiling hot oil down the inside of my boot. Basically, I take what World Class Designers and Engineers have dedicated themselves to produce and turn it into Shrapnell. And if you don't understand the joy and Happiness that brings me, can I recommend a nice little Nissan or Toyota. ** It melted the 'Fekin plastic lense 'tho.

How did you know that??!!
I'm guessing not everyone will understand your comment as they didn't go to School in 1802 and our American cousins will have no idea about real money. Funny, about the only thing I actually remember from School is the "send reinforcements" thing !!! Did it actually happen as was told to me by Miss Bushell or did she make it up ?
