Eric Buell in the news I see, launching an electric motorcycle company “Fuell”.

Should be interesting to see what he comes up with.

I cannot imagine ever getting an adrenalin rush from an electric motorcycle. Two-strokes are bad enough for lack of soul. A good four-stroke twin cylinder motorcycle must be the ultimate in macho thrill. The S1 Buell was almost a decent motorcycle.

What would you rather drive - a 1929 Blower Bentley or an electric car ? I think we have lost the plot. Whatever happened to FUN ? What really makes me laugh are the people who pine for autonomous motor vehicles. My own two cars are Mazda 6, both have 6 speed manual change close ratio gearboxes. You can actually drive them properly if you can find a winding road. I once drove one of them around Winton Raceway. I got smart and quit before I looped it.

I concur with Acotrel that the fun factor of electric vehicles is ZERO. (and elec vehicles are blind alley anyway)

I’ve never ridden one, and I get to scepticism, I am a confirmed petrol head too.

But instant max torque, always, now that has to at least pique one’s interest a little...

Electric vehicles will start a whole new industry of specific breakdown vehicles with charging outlets.
The whole thing is flawed and not even green.

I'm glad I'm going and not comimg.

Truth is ,since first learning to walk, 2 wheels of all types grabbed my interest ... our family had no car until ‘61 and my parents rode bicycles to work ... no matter the power source if it has 2 wheels I want to ride it ..... our first car turned out to be a new VW bug , 3 kids and a beagle .... you can guess where the dog and I rode , when heading for the beach .....

My friend who races electrics got tired of all the gas bike guys needling him about actually using coal power to charge the bike so he put solar panels on his race trailer and not only charges the bike but runs lights and a refrigerator as well as any electric power tools needed. While everyone else is running their generators, his stays in the truck.

When you take off from a stop on an electric, you may think your shoulders are coming out of their sockets. A special bit of fun is watching those torquey Harleys disappear in your mirrors trying to keep up. Tell me this wouldn't be fun just because it doesn't make noise and smoke:

Harley even went so far as to design their Livewire electric's drive gear to make noise for those who can't stand the silence.

All they lack is range and that will be forthcoming as r&d continues at a feverish pace. Imagine a bike with 1000 miles of range instead of 100, powered by a pea-sized lump of plutonium in a football-sized reactor.

If I want something that does not make noise, I will buy a fish tank.

The torque and acceleration are for real.
Rode a Zero a few years ago, and it was a blast.
Disable the traction control, yank the throttle, and it's wheelie city baby!
But lack of range is their Achilles heel right now.
Without a quantum improvement in battery storage capacity they remain expensive toys.

Running out of juice on the road means calling for a pickup, and then where do you take it to charge???
And it takes several hours to charge.
If I run out of gas in my MK3, I call AAA or AMA, and they send a truck with a gas can, then I'm back on the road and heading for a gas station.

More likely that fuel cell technology will be the real answer.
The companies have to package the fuel cell for motorcycle use.
Then we need hydrogen fuel stations on the roads.

Oh yeah, they have all the soul of a flash light, or a torch for you folks across the pond.

With acetylene, it is usually dissolved in acetone on fullers' earth. What can you do to make hydrogen safe ?

Hydrogen is very safe, if it leaks then unlike heavy petrol vapour it rises quickly, if it ignites the flames go upwards with the hydrogen not sideways. Just look at the Hindenburg fire, it goes straight upwards.
