Yes I’ve had an issue with the support of my tank, I’d noticed it was lobsided when I removed it 2 weeks ago to fit the LAMDA delete plugs, the tank is held on by 3 screws, one under the seat & one each side underneath at front of tank, the left had metal lug that is part of the ign coil/ battery box had snapped clean off, prob didn’t help as I have carried a lot off weight in my givi tank bag, tool kit & lots of other things around 5 to maybe 10kg for most of my bikes life.
A new one from Norton is around £50 so I had a local fabricator who was fitting locks to my truck this week to give it a touch with his welding stick.
And so it was done , and as u can see from the pics it’s pretty straightforward to remove tank & get to things, don’t be frightened of the “ push fit “ petrol fuel line that connects to the fuel pump spigot,it’s a knack to click & remove it,& please note the location of the lamda delete plug/ resistor fitting ( two things to right of frame ) which really do do what every one says they do,smooth ,splutter free at all revs, absence of snatching on my euro 3 2016 bike, this bike really is a mecanno set for adults .

Hi Richard , Love the polished chassis pack look ! Do you think there is room for another brace or plate to be welded under the coils to strengthen the section ?

Yes Tony there is room for a plate above or below where it snapped, my guy today did weld it rock solid, when the bike is on its side stand with a fully loaded tank bag that’s when it must of put most strain on it ( or left hand corners HA/HA) ,I’ve got a different set up now with 40 litre roll bag on my rear rack when touring , so less weight now for sure in tank bag

Bugger of a thing to happen, but what great fodder for us. I was running out of things to check and getting a little OCD with the polishing anyhow. Hope your fix is a goodun.

I was just going to post that the left front tank mounting bolt on my Sport just keeps rotating when I saw this. With an elderly dead battery this is a real pain. But as I am going away on work I have given to my local shop to sort out.

Hope your captive nut which is actually in the tank is ok & not loose/thread knackered ,be careful not to over tighten or use longer screws other than oringinal or else !!! And just noticed we all got a flag now ! Hip hip

Thank you for that advice. Only just got the bike so everything is a bit new to me. Can’t understand the bad design of the side stand for instance.

If u mean the angle of the dangle , get one of these from “R&G” ,raises & improves the angle, soughted

I put a spur on mine, its a simple bolt-on but does the job and has stayed put for past 1200 miles or so, I can get my heel on it from in front of the gear lever.

Captive nut it is. So I am told that I have two choices. A new tank or bonding the nut. Easiest decision for a while!!

Bumping this up. I think this is just what happened to me. Wish I hadn't just topped of the tank. Difference is, Richard, I've never had a Givi tank bag or any other unusual weight on board. Oh well. Thanks for posting this.

Had this problem a few years ago, Peter Howes formerly of Norton Canada informed the only adhesive that will work is called Teroson PU6700me made by Henkel. The repair lasted 2 seasons. Repeated the process still holding good now. You have to clear the area so the metal insert can be removed. You can over tighten very easily and spin the insert. The bolt bottoms out before it seems to tighten everything up. Added a flat washer between rubber and bracket to prevent bolt from bottoming out.

That's a good tip. So far, my epoxied male bolt onto the tank and dropped through the bracket, held on with a washer and nut is holding well. Not quite a year but close to 1,000 miles of riding.
