Personal pics from yesteryear : Norton Commando (2018)

I have a collection of personal Norton memorabilia I've somehow kept all these years. They're in boxes. I'm currently involved in a personal literary project, so I've been sorting through them. Looking them over, I think members of the forum might enjoy them.

Perhaps also, fellow members might post pics from their Commando-riding past, like from the 60's, 70's and 80's.

This is a newsletter cover from the Norton Owners Club. The club's members primarily resided on the San Francisco Peninsula, circa 1970's and 1980's-- when I had contact with them.

Newsletter is from June 1978. Focus was on Second Annual Norton Beer Bust. Imagine if you were a motorcycle social event-- specifically centered around Norton motorcycles and beer drinking! Cue old Archie and Edith, singing their tune "those were the days."

In the UK the Norton rallies are very much centered around beer and I hope always will be

70 "roadster" bought new at end of model year. Yes Commandos do wheelie and I knew almost nothing about them back then except they were fast and sounded great. Even at that time I could start the bike with my hand...

1973 Mk2A. (avatar) black box air filter and black cap mufflers now long gone. Was shipped to me from Liverpool to Panama. Shot was taken in 74 by my girlfriend in a neighborhood near north end of canal. Happy days...

First motorcycle, I'll have to look for period Norton shots later. This was a 1965 BSA Lightning Rocket, sort of. I later learned several parts were from earlier years and the frame was a 500cc unit. It was a Buzzing Anvil that liked to run on 1 1/2 cylinders much of the time.

I don't know if it was this time but, the nazis got us 4 up once. Was headed about a mile to the lunch place and he pulled us over and made the three wait while I went back for the car....

First Norton 1973. I still have it.

Found a shot of a Commando I had for about half a season. The previous owner couldn't figure out the wiring. When you pulled the front brake lever the horn honked. I got it sorted then foolishly sold it. I know it was a 750, want to say it was a '71. The paint was quite hokey.
Also found a shot of a '67 Atlas that I bought for $250 in 1977 or 78. It was running okay but the frame was absolutely butchered. Frame had the top tubes chopped out and replaced with a single center tube. Then it was put back with a couple of smaller top tubes. I still have most of these parts and plan to use the magneto if I ever get my Commando done and move on to my '65 Atlas cafe project.
