Not sure where Snotzo found a mention of the 29th. Our Open Day is this coming Saturday, the 28th July, as was said in "The Source" as well as our website.

We will all be there- Ashley Cutler, who can tell you all about camshafts and tappets, Simon, our other buyer, Phil, our MD, and the whole Seifert family including myself.

Joe/Andover Norton

The surface fatigue on the cam lobe nose is a result of spring pressure - it can't be anything else. The problem is there is over 5 different manufacture types of springs being fitted, of which two have been tested

In an engine that is just being cranked at low speed then yes , but surely not in one that has started. Even at 2000rpm
the cam is turning at 1000 rev per minute. There will surely be very little loading on the lobe . the cam knocks the lifter and valve open , contact is reestablished as the valve closes. The nominal spring pressdure will be important if it lets the cam run away from the tappet when closing, for the impact will be much greater.

@Snotzo dude, don’t shoot the messenger! I was just confirming it’s on the Saturday not the Sunday!

Not shooting at you my friend, sorry if I gave you that impression.
Saturday or Sunday, it is no matter to me, I won't be attending the AN open day.
Three reasons,
1/ Madnorton obviously doesn't want anyone to dispute his decision regarding the reason for the cam wear.
2/ Fullauto appears to be uninterested in having an alternative and unbiassed assessment of either his or AN's matallurgists reports.
3/ I've just had a project dropped into my lap, of Italian origin, having four cylinders, each with four valves, and not a worn cam in sight!

Good luck with your open day AN.

I do not have the report. I am getting it from Ben. When I do, I will post it. For a bit of light entertainment, look at Jim Comstock's post.

Starting to see a pattern here.

Err, missing something here, UKAS, GKN, SAFRAN, SAFED approved test facility used, and yes the above was done. I was not the only one that tested the cam, it was also tested in Australia, maybe you would like to tell them to get it tested correctly too. I think you have not read the posts, or have jumped the gun a bit here or you would have realised it was tested in Aus.
So yes, I have done myself a favour and if you have anything useful to add please post it, or email it to me and I will follow it up.

So, Ashley, in the interests of fairness and letting everybody know what's going on with your testing of your faulty followers, please, do tell, what is happening and why do you show that followers are not available at the moment? Surely you must have come up with a new report saying how terrific they are by now.

Along the same line of letting everybody know what's going on: It's been more than a couple of weeks since we heard about Ben's forthcoming report. Any news there, Ken?

Madnorton, re post [HASHTAG]#365[/HASHTAG]

I cannot remember any previous post on any topic that contained so much rubbish, but this one hits the jackpot !

good stuff for new folks, reading about it all, in one thread for the first time,

mainstream certified air cooled general aviation piston engines have the same issues to date, in some ways worse,

interesting history
