TonyA's Engine Rebuild

Is the balance gear spring tensioned ? Just a thought. Now that your primary is open you should check it.

OK will do.

So that would take up slack 'away' from the clutch end of primary?

Think will need One07 tools for that? As once checked no going back from memory.

This bike sounds so much better (mechanical noise) than the new Sport I had though so maybe I'm asking for a lot :)

Lets ask Richard-7 , we were just in there and did the new tension spring .

Yes, go to CNW for the tool. Any Norton dealer for the spring.

Thanks for posting the exhaust gasket. My ring keeps vibing, sounds like a high pitched rattling chain. I really wrenched down on it to keep it from doing that. Now I know I should just get new crush washer and gasket. I know that's not one of the more technical things featured in this thread but it'll keep me from overtightening.

How was the wear on your piston rings and was there any burnt or excess oil build up in the rocker covers?

Just finishing up.

In two more weeks, this shot would have been impossible. Traffic, no stopping allowed, cops, 10,000 tourists. We were lucky.

Great photos.
Anybody jump the Falls?:p

So Tony, what's the verdict on the blueprint/rebuild?

Dave and Richard will you be offering performance work in the future like
Head porting
Big valve work
High compression piston kits
6 spd trannys
FCR carb conversions (just kidding)
etc.

Job's a goodun. Thanks for the insight into all the oily bits

Wow. Great photos. Can't believe it only took a couple of days. Man, we should all chip in and buy the 5 acres across the street. Start our own Nortons club and ride around the Falls. Hmmm.....I think I can guess who carried the snacks and beverages.

Yes run two crush washers per exhaust port.

Yes it was a great experience working with Dave. BUT , please don't misunderstand . I got here Saturday last. There was several days of steady work , cleaning and measuring . Would I do it again ? YES ! This was all worth it ! I am still in Canada , I am leaving at zero dark thirty tomorrow morning.

Rocker cover inside , clean as a whistle . I had good compression and cylinder bores still had the cross hatch honing lines in them.
You don’t have Nikasil though? I thought they changed to Nikasil coating with MKII bikes...
