Hey guys, been off the site for a while - good to be back. My beutiful Norton has thrown up another oddity I could do with your help with.

There has been so much rain up here on the Sunshine Coast I have’nt had the Norton out for week, but I’ve been a good boy and started it regularly. Went to do so last week, and when the engine was switched off the Tacho needle failed to return to zero, with the needle settling just below 1000 RPM. I started the engine again and although idling normally the RPM was showing 1000 RPM above the obvious idling speed. Turned off the engine and the needle settled back at just below 1000 RPM. WTF!

Any ideas guys.

Thanks.

Still covered under warranty perhaps ? If not , try and completely disconnect it see if it goes to zero. If not remove it from bike and shake it vigorously listen for any loose part . Reconnect again.

My needles have fallen off both tack and speedo and jiggle like crazy. But they haven’t jammed at all. Unfortunately the lens is glued. I damaged it trying to get it apart. Anyhow, I’m chiming in because this happened to my truck. The stepper motor stripped or let go and it put it out of calibration and there was no way to fix it so I had to replace it. If its under warranty just get a new one. Put in a claim sooner than later.

Hi,

The Australian speedos were supplier by the distributor at the time to qualify for homologation. We now have these made by our OEM supplier (Continental VDO) so the quality is as good as it gets.

Speak to Rob here and if your bike is out of warranty I am sure he can help.

Thanks

Thanks guys, bike is still in warranty and hopefully the dealer will replace. Took the Norton for a good high speed thrash today, needle settled back at 1100 revs when the engine was turned of!! Creeping up it would appear. Also had condemsation in both gauges. Mmmm!.

I'll keep you guys informed.

Patience pays off,

I have been ignoring my zero zero issue and sure enough it has resolved itself. Went for a ride at the weekend and on my return - ignition off, tachometer needle drops to zero!

No idea whether this fault will re-appear. If it does it will hopefully be within the warranty period.

Regards.

Steve

Report what happened to the dealer so they will have a record of it, in case it happens again.

You don't have to report it. BUT if you want them to pay for it ?

Thanks guys,

My dealer is well aware of the issue. They tell me they reported it to Norton - no notification of any reply.

I have all of this recorded in E-mail,so should be all good.
