I think a Combat package would be great if done right.
The 961 crank isn't fragile like the 750/850's.
A liitle more CR, bigger intake valve, slightly hotter cam.
Offer it as a $2,000 option on any model.
Call it Combat II

Of course popular culture being what it is today, the term COMBAT would probably be viewed as wildly politically incorrect.

Anyone who remembers the original Norton Combat Commandos will remember a very rough time in Nortons' history, not one to name anything after. Many Combats blew up in a spectacular fashion with very low miles. We only managed 1500 miles on my cousin's Combat before it sent a connecting rod through the crankcase! Norton detuned and fortified the engine, then fortified some more and made it larger to gain back some power. They dropped the Combat name like a hot potato, and for good reason, the Combat experience nearly wiped out the company in one fell swoop.
There are lots of better names to use, best to leave the Norton Combat Commando model in the history books!

Tell us how you managed to keep it below the red line...

Hi

Can anyone me have a larger scan of the article?
I can't read the one on this thread... the resolution is too low when zooming in.

Cheers

Great, thanks, DallasNorton.
Maybe I shouldn't read it as I'll be chomping at the bit for the new version!!! :?
