Wow. Where do I start?

The thing I like about Motorcycle fórums is that you can look at beautiful bikes and girls and not be judged. e.g. brolly girls at a moto GP or models at a bike show.
However, on the American forums I know of, the tolerance for any type of adult language or images (not talking about distasteful or pornographic ones) is frowned upon and judged harshly from a position of supposed moral superiority.

It's incredible how many people really do believe they know better and can judge people as being inferior to them.
True believer, your belief is "more correct them mine" then.

This is way off topic now!!
So, where as "Where do it start?" the question now is, where did it end?

It ended like a fairy tale, sort of. I got my ride back, albeit a fairly long wait, and its growling like a panther. I went for a freezing temp ride, which was fun and horrible at the same time, and a 50 degree F ride which was great!! Special shout out to M.P. at Norton for keeping interest and helping me out even during all of my bitching. You were the one person that seemed to care.

Outstanding!
:D

For the record I was ok with the photos (they were great) until the complaints rolled in. We tend to manage the forum by complaints and that is what prompted the decision to only post links instead of those pics in the post. It is still ok to post links to the photos BTW. I am sure someone will post some more photos like that one day and if there are not multiple complaints/ emails to us then it will be ok. Its a funny business managing a forum with lots of old men as members.

Cheers

Jerry,

Really?

"Its a funny business managing a forum with lots of old men as members."

I know you actually mean - mature distinguished gentlemen.

Also for the Record: Jerry, nor any other MOD, pressured me to remove the photos. It was my decision. I posted the photos to share what was very great photo-shoot. I, naively, thought everyone would enjoy the photos. I am a big fan of beautiful scantly clad women, and Norton motorcycles. I did not have any pictures of beautiful women performing fellatio next to a Norton (that might be a good idea for the next shoot LOL)

Anyway, Jerry was very nice about the situation. I will share the pics via a link sometime in the future (no not the oral sex ones)

John

some might call me an old man but I am not dead yet!!! I vote for more pics but in the interest of keeping the peace mark it as not work safe

out of the roster of members. how many complaints ?? a few vocal crybabies win out over the majority . great. A real PC crowd

As moderator, I get to see behind the scenes, so tend to get a slightly different view of things, therefore I am aware that images which may be regarded as "innocuous" or "tasteful" by some, are not acceptable-at least to a reasonable number of our forum members and during my time here as moderator I've received more complaints about apparent "sexist" imagery than any other subject or issue (yes, even more than Phil Yates).

A comment was made that the particular images in question were no worse than what can be seen in certain UK daily tabloid comics-sorry, (news)papers however anyone who reads that type of paper knows roughly what to expect, which brings me to another major member grumble which is the embarrassment factor when a member reading the forum in a family or work environment opens a page and is confronted by the unexpected, and is then apparently caught looking at pictures of "naked" women by family members or work colleagues and this is why I would stress that any such images are linked rather than shown, preferably with a warning, however, please note that is not a free hand to post links to unacceptable images.

Funny, but I just passed on the exact same sentiment (not dead yet) to G81 Can Cycle the other day. Have owned and rode Brit bikes on and off since December, 1949, and will take delivery of a new 961 SF in January, 2015 when I'll turn 80. I grew up in Daytona Beach and saw both Billy Mathews and Dick Klamforth ride their Manx's to victory on the old beach-road course so I have a 'Norton attachment' that goes way back.

Cheers!

Ollyoop. You're 80 and are getting a new Norton. Wow. I've gained a few heros on this board. First a 5,000 mi. run on a new Norton and now am older gent with some cool history getting a new bike. Inspirational! Hey fellas.....I'm a happy camper with my newly repaired bike. Its ok to let this thread go into the archives for now. Its kind of going all over the place. But hey, if you want to keep it going, I'm flattered. Also, IMHO, I liked the photos, but no one should be offended even if its the minority of viewers, so cheers to the moderator for doing his job.

No, it isn't naked, it has a coat on, possibly several coats? It is however, off-topic-as this is the 961 section.

I have been communicating with Ollyoop via PM about his 961 purchase. I want to meet him in Daytona for a ride. What a cool ride it would be to ride the first pair of 961's in Florida with a guy who rode his first Norton in 1949.

There is a T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) quote that I use as a way to consider what one might be able to accomplish: "ALL MEN DREAM, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible. This I did."

Yes, a ride in Daytona with G81 Can Cycle will be forthcoming.

I regularly ride my 961 through Tremadog, Lawrence of Arabia's town of birth, just sayin :)

Good Evening der,
I kinda' thought the 'history' of Lawrence would start to come out from some of you folks from the UK. My wife and I both trace our roots back to England, Scotland, and Ireland. I started to read T.E. Lawrence many years ago and count him as one of my favorite historical personages. Thanks for your comment!
Cheers,

Good Evening Britfan60,

Unfortunately, it won't be a new Norton. I simply could not reconcile having the dealer over a thousand miles away should I have any kind of warranty issue. So, I bought a new Triumph T214 Bonnie. At least the dealer is only 50 miles away and the bike costs about half what the 961 was going to set me back. I thought it symbolic that the first new Triumph I owned was built earlier in the year the Bonneville achieved its world acclaim, and that my new one is a tribute to that same achievement. Regardless, I'd still love to have a 961 but with absolutely no local dealer support that's not doable (I could have 'rationalized' maybe 200 miles away but not a thousand).

Cheers and Happy New Year

You could get the Triumph Thruxton 'R' mentioned in another thread. You shouldn't have problems upgrading when the time comes.

Good Evening mrsimon,
Since participating in this thread back in January I've spent most of my time on the TriumphRat website but come back here to read the mail since I still love the Norton 961. I kinda took your advice (in a way), and brought a new Street Triple STRX to be a stablemate for the Bonnie. The Bonnie is now the Sunday bike, and the Striple is my Saturday 'twister'. It was almost a Red Daytona but the clip-ons and rear sets were a bit much for this old back. No chance a Featherbed Manx will ever wind up in my garage, but one can always dream!
Cheers,
Ollyoop

Brought the bike in almost 5 weeks ago for an oil leak from the starter and automatic downshifting from 5th to 4th. They sent a detente spring and said that should do the trick. Ok. Picked up the bike today. They said oil is now leaking a very little from the seam in the crank case so they temporarily put some ugly gray sealant on the seam until they call the distributor and Norton to find out what to do about that. Ok. So I rode the bike home for now. It still downshifts from 5th to 4th but with a host of groovy new symptoms, like, letting off the throttle and it hangs up at 2400 RPM and almost slams you into the car in front of you unless you slam on that beautiful front Brembo and do a nose dive to let everyone think you can't ride for shit. There's a really nice grinding and slapping sound going on too. Maybe I should pass the hat for that lovely music I'm playing. So here I thought I'd be smiling on the way home because I finally got my ride now that Summer is coming to a close, but instead, I wanted to puke. This beautiful looking, awesome sounding, wicked handling Norton is a real piece of shit. I'm sorry this is not what you fans want to hear, but I think I'm done. I might need to get a lawyer. Let's see how this pans out. I was one of the biggest fans until all this crap started. Oh yea....she's idling now at 1700 RPM, 500 to fast, but so what.
I've had my 961 for about two years. It was one of the first 10 imported into the USA. When I first purchased the bike it had a grinding sound as well. At 300 miles the motor quit on me. RPM Cycles in Dallas serviced my engine and everything has been fine ever since. I paid big bucks for the bike. So I can relate to your frustration. My experience is that Norton will take care of the problem. Just keep taking it back until the service department get's it right.
