Hi all,
74 Mark 2 roadster
An urgent request to advise of the correct route of the main wiring loom where it runs along the main frame on top of the cylinder head.
My harness runs down the right hand side of the main spine. It looks very unhappy there. After nearly 50 years it is quite stiff and inforgiving (unlike it’s owner). Should it run over the head between the two engine steady plates. It looks a lot happier and neater there but I’m concerned that the engine vibration might chafe the loom.
Does the LH throttle cable cross over onto the left hand side of the bike near where the cable splits into two, that is between the reinforcement gusset and the main tube?
Any advise or photo gratefully accepted
great day, just spent half of it on my hands and knees looking for the mixture needle clip, what fun!

It runs along the right side on mine, I have a new harness but it follows the same route as the original it replaced. What I did do in that area is remove the decayed large single 5x2 block and replaced it with 5 single doubles which are easier to mould into a shape not to get in the way of the tank. You want the harness not to touch the engine or anything directly bolted to the engine as that is free to vibrate with the rubber iso's. On the cables I fit them with no ties and then move the bars left to right several times and then use the least number of ties to hold them where they rest.

It's a great day if you found it ;)

Yes, as above, it runs to the right of the head steady and then into that rat’s nest of wires above the coils. I opened a thread saying I’m making up my own harness to clean up and simplify it, it’s still a work in progress while I’m out riding. I did buy a new Lucas loom from Wassells which fitted perfectly, but of course it replicates the rat’s nest, but just a bit more flexible. It’ll do for now, but I’ve already scrapped a number of redundant parts of it as I don’t have a zener, or condenser, ballast or twin coils.

Having seen an alternative placement for the ignition switch up on the lh headlamp ear I’m considering a further change to relocate mine. I’ll take some time to deliberate the options and do a total review of the wiring diagram.

Tip on stiff wiring harness; heat whole harness in a very low heat oven, it should then become soft and pliable.
