well it's cold as hell here so time to let 'the fleet' rest a bit...what would you'ns recommend to wipe them down with not the tank and side panels but frame tubes/chrome/engine etc a light squirt of WD40 on fluffy rag?

Nope. Makes it harder to clean come Spring. It all gets a dry wipe down, then a canvas cover keeps the dust off.

If you have heated storage a good wash and then a full wipe down and wax is the way to go. I polish all the alloy as well. Not to forget drain all fluids
and refill and runup to get new oil around. Of course this is for the pampered pets. The riders get the fluids done and the rest is cursory.

Another vote for ACF-50 – I first encountered it this summer, and it's doing a great job on an old Kawasaki that's parked outdoors under a fabric cover. It polishes off easily too. Thanks for the tip about the liquid, Kommando – I've only seen the aerosol.

Although I live in the tropics I think the principle is the same - I use a product called ACF-50 and have found it excellent!
Cheers

The liquid ACF50 is great, as Kommando says, it’s a lot cheaper and you can really splash it all over nice n thick.

Personally, it does not replace the aerosol in my shed though. Aerosol versions have solvent based carrier and, whilst these evaporate and can therefore be seen as not adding value, they do add value IMHO by increasing the penetrating properties and allowing the stuff to get places it otherwise wouldn’t.

Spray the areas that benefit from it with aerosol first, then pump the liquid.

Original Spray Cleaner/Polish. Many shops around here use it. Spray it on a soft cloth and use to wipe dust and light dirt or spray it on direct for heavier grime, bugs etc. Works on paint, chrome, polished alloy or perspex.

is acf 50 available in u.s.?and if so where?thanks
Indeed Sir it is... it was a product devised for the US military & air planes on carriers..... it is by far the best anti corrosion medium
I have used the aerosols for years & yes its not the cheapest way to purchase it, but if you only have one bike it probably not worth the non aerosol bulk purchase

I grab some oil off the bottom of my crankcase and give my frame a nice wipe down. No rust yet.

ACF-50 I’m a little addicted to it. I bought the quart bottle and it came with a nifty little spray bottle.
