when I got the bike I crawled all over it and noticed a big jubilee clip around a black box behind the engine and under the swinging arm . I have been meaning to ask but keeps slipping my mind. What is this box and why the big clip ??

The box is a charcoal canister designed to prevent any petrol fumes entering the atmosphere.

Rather unnecessary over regulation IMHO.

It sits on a bracket that appears to have been specified by an ex bridge designer.

Mine is safely tucked away in a cardboard box along with the cat, stock pipes, and other detritus.

Hated the thing from day one. It was supposed to have been taken off at my first service and was told that it had but there it still is. You should get a kit to remove it with through pipes but I can't really be bothered with it now and can't think why it should cause any problems so just look at the nice bits of the bike instead (of which there are many).

I tried that and failed.
Knowing it was there just triggered the voices.
They became too loud...

I instruct our dealers NOT to remove the kit, but leave it in place and take it out of circuit when aftermarket pipes are fitted.

The only reason I do this is so that if MOT laws become such that the EVAP needs to be in place and operational, it is nice and easy to reinstate without labour charges to put it back on (they are a real pain to retrofit).

See, we think about you!

This subject is getting duplicated in another thread - I can't see any reason to remove it so it will stay for the moment and I can enjoy the warm fuzzy glow from doing something for the environment...

Not if you’ve got factory or dealer fitted open pipes Clive... as Rob says, it will have been disconnected...
