I used to do a lot of sea fishing off the shore, beachcasting, and also used to be a member of the UKSCF a casting tournament club - on land we would see how far we could cast/throw a 150g lead weight. 

Anyway, I remember fishing with bruv-in-law on Chesil beach in Dorset. He reeled in a line of Mackerel and I grabbed one, still alive and kicking, head off, guts out and put it straight into a frying pan while it was still in its death throes. Nothing is fresher.
