I have a few friends who live up at Agnes Water/1770 and is at the beginning of the Great Barrier Reef the reef is 1 1/2 hour run across open water and some great fishing at Xmas time and any holidays the 2 towns grow from the holiday makers and lots of off shore boats come up but talking to one of my mate's it's been blowing hard and no boats getting out in open water so good for the fishing stock but when there are lots of boats on the reef brings in the big sharks as well, when bottom bashing you have to bring the fish up quick but most of the time you only get the head.Last time I was up there we were trolling for Mackerel around middle rock just off shore from Bustard Head lighthouse, my mate was on the rod and I was driving the boat when he hooked up on a big Mackerel as we stop and I was watching the action all of a sudden the big Mackerel leaped out of the water and following it a was an even bigger shark, it was like slow motion not far behind the boat, the shark took the whole Mackerel in full flight in one gulp, took the wire trace and all, it was one hell of a size shark, we just looked at each other in amazement with both of our mouths open it was our first and only hook up that morning and a wet trip back to 1770 in an open boat.
