Anyone have a 1/4 whit socket that fits down in the head to get the deep bolts without grinding down the socket? I do have an old 1/4W snap on, but it's too fat to fit down there, and it's 1/2" drive, so i dont think there is any hope of making it fit. So wondering if anyone knows of a brand that will for sure fit, or if most 3/8 drives would be a safe bet to fit.

I got a 3/8 drive from Hemmings and it fit the head fine, but I had to grind it down a bit to fit the gearbox nuts.

+1 on the Koken. I have 3/8 drive 6 point set, fits easily into tight places, very high quality.

I had a Hazet 3/8 drive that was super thin and worked very well however I did grind it down more yet and I don't remember why. Here's a pic next to a snap-on 3/8 drive for a comparison. The snappy is pretty thin as far as other socket types go.

If you compare the left edges there is less glare and you can see how thin the Hazet (the one on the right) is in comparison to the snappy. I used the Hazet for 4-5 years like it is and it never broke.

i did end up getting a koken set online from bcf cycle who are in ohio, and i'm in pa, they shipped them within two hours so i might have them for the weekend. 6 piece for $40, i was waiting to hear back from our snapon rep, i'm thinking one 1/4W socket would have been more than that from him. Thanks guys!

Good hope they work out. My Koken sockets are very nice.

Some years ago I found I was living about 100 metres down the road from a specialist tool shop where the owner was basically a tool nut.

I would go in there with a problem and he would either recomend something straight away or haul out about 10 manuals which described every spanner and socket in great detail. Clearance, thickness, angles, lenghts, the works. He either had them in stock or could get them in about half a day. Not always cheap but Im prepared to pay someone who delivers a product and a service.

The issue I have these days is to stop them vanishing. I swear you go to a race meeting and half the people are like bloody magpies. You turn round and your tools have vanished. I used to be sort of OK about it but these days I get pretty ropeable about it. There are a couple of guys I will never let near an unlocked tool box !!!!

When you are racing you develop a routine for certain tasks. I have collections of tools specifically matched to some tasks - colour coded in some cases. And when you find one is missing and the bike is due out in ten minutes woe betied the ***** who "borrowed it"

Like the rider said. " We didnt come for the beer !!! "

i love finding places like that, we talked my father in law into letting us build a two car garage in one of the warehouses at his business, since then we've talked him into buying a lift, large compressors, getting a snapon acount, etc etc. We have two local mechanics who also use our garage to do side work, and they've brought a large amount of their personal tools as well as mine and my old bosses so that garage has almost anything automotive in it, and it's a five minute drive from my house so it's really nice to have.
