My MKIII has an O ring in the parts manual but for the life of me I can't figure out where exactly it goes or what its' purpose is.
Located on the carrier pawl assembly is an O ring p/n 04-0079.
Would one of the wiser sages inform me what the stack up is on the shaft for the spring, O ring and ratchet plate.

Just dug my old inner cover out of the bonepile (converted back to rhs years ago) and there's a slight groove in the drilling in the back of the cover where the crossover shaft passes through. So while there may not be a groove on the shaft, that's where the o-ring seals. Since the crossover isn't perpendicular to the cover, the groove is in the hole in the cover rather than on the shaft itself.

So according to the wiser among us I took the "O" ring out of the MKIII and installed it in the trash bin. Then I fettled the hairspring, cleaned up a burr or two on the pawl and shaft, re-shimmed the layshaft end play to 0.006 and the transmission shifts like new. HURRAY!!!

But it still leaks oil from the Quadrant shaft after two "O" ring replacement, the second one soaked in 'Dow 55'. I'm really frustrated about the oil leak, it's the only one left on the bike. AAAARRGHHHH!
Any help on this? I put new bushings in three months ago. It leaks worse then before I started working on it.
I've searched the forum archive to no real solution.

Maybe the O-ring isn't compressed enough to make a good seal?

Not illustrated on the Mk3 parts diagrams but in the Group 6 parts list is: "06-8094, E4150, Shim, for O-ring".
