working on the 961 to prepare to replace balance split gear spring. Started to remove the trigger disc. The screws hold the disc on are post torx security screws which of course will not work with my torx sets. Now I get to order a special set of torx bits. What was Norton thinking? Some one is going to remove the primary case cover and steal the trigger disc! Confused and a bit .

Yes, I see that. My guestion is why use the security torx in this location? Is their any logical reason?

I would wager that it’s a deliberate attempt to prevent amateurs like us from fiddling about with things we don’t understand !

It’s not an uncommon approach these days, and is, in some cases, quite understandable.

What Norton seem to have forgotten though is that it only makes sense to deter DIY fiddling if a viable alternative... ie chain of qualified and competent dealerships... is in place !!

It’s no big deal. Tamper Torx bits are readily available anywhere.
FYI Norton also uses tamper torx screws on the ignition switch and on my Dominator Naked they used one on the headlight lens.
But on my Commandos headlight they used a Phillips head screw lol.

Well, obviously, Norton figured that Dominator owners can’t be trusted going inside the headlamp shell, whereas Commando owners can...!
