Hi there folks. I just recently joined this forum since I just recently acquired a '74 850 commando. It came with either the wrong tank or the wrong seat, in either case, the interstate tank won't fit with the seat. I don't care for the interstate tank since it's dented and ugly, so what roadster tanks will fit my bike? I read somewhere that pretty much any part will interchange with any other part(cosmetically) but I would like some confirmation before I purchase a 750 commando tank and find out it won't fit.

Butch.

I have a 72 and a 74, I swap tanks and seats all the time, don't bother with the side covers as they don't interfer. Go for a steel roadster as this will not suffer from the alcohol in the fuel and will be closer to 74.

I would definitely prefer steel if I can get it. What do you guys think about using a liner like tank kreem in those old fiberglass tanks?...is there one made specifically for 'glass tanks?...man...for as long as I've been riding motorcycles, I sure feel like a newbie here.

There is much discussion on fiberglass tank sealers. Everyone seems to have a different opinion. Personally I would go with Caswells.

If I end up with a 'glass tank, I'll keep that in mind. I've got some sort of old OIF triumph aftermarket low profile 'glass tank that I'm selling off and I guess I should recommend a sealer to whomever buys it.
