Scenario:

Any Norton motorcycle with 180mm spread triple clamps, CRS GP35R forks, CRS 230mm Ceriani replica brake.

What is a good part number for an axle/spindle that will work with that combination of parts?

Oddly CRS won't give me any clues other than 20mm on one fork leg, and 17mm through the brake and into the other fork leg. I don't have the fork and brake pieces yet, but when they get here I want to have everything I need ready to go on the project. Best guess is overall length is a little over 10". So far after looking on several sites, I haven't found a site that lists the specs for the axles/spindles they sell. Does a Norton 06-0362 axle meet the spec?

Anybody using the listed parts or another drum brake with the same forks and triple clamps have an answer they can share?

If its 20mm on one leg then no Norton spindle will work, the 17mm is because they used 17mm ID bearings, rest will be imperial sizes. I made my own spindle for my special but with metric holes on the fork ends you need to look at Japanese bikes, Honda use 17mm bearings.

I'm getting closer to finding the right spindle. W&W in Germany has them. $113+ outrageous shipping $85.

Won't be paying $200 US for a frigging $49 axle.

Decided to shade tree red neck it with 15mm bore x 17mm OD bushings. I have a 20mm - 15mm axle in my Betor forks that is the right length. Should have thought of it earlier, so I wouldn't have had to embarrass myself asking for assistance. Carry on

Found a brand new Yamaha axle for under $40US that meets the spec. Not as pretty as some of the axles I've seen made in Europe, but it will get the job done.

Kommando, Searching for the axle using the data base of models was time consuming and not fruitful. Just using the term "axle" on one of the online motorcycle parts storefronts I've used in the past is how I found the Yamaha axle with a listed specification. I just had to find the right store. Only took a week. ;) Thanks for the information just the same.

Welcome to the wonders of Special's building, now try and get a Swingarm and rear wheel that will fit onto an RSVR 1000 engine with a 18" rim and made from alloy with chain on left side and can be mono or twin shock. It will take a lot longer than a week !!

Turns out I didn't find a match. Chubby end is 22mm, not 20mm. The rest of it is right. I don't own a lathe or a plating company. Still might buy it, and see what kind of redneck fix I can come up with.
