Before you get that thumb fixed - read what they do - to me a stupid "fix".

There is a lot of research on Cartledge replacement going on now and while still surgical, Mayo Clinic is repairing rather than replacing hips and knees under FDA scrutiny. I'm trying to hold out for that for my knee and hoping they expand to thumbs - my right thumb is a mess.

I wish steroids weren't bad for you. When I get a steroid shot in my foot, my thumb and all other arthritis quits hurting for 2-3 days. Pediatrists will give steroid shots much more often that orthopedic surgeons in my experience. I used to get a shot in my thumb every 6 weeks but since it only lasted a few days I quit that.
