VIP membership

I doubt very much that anyone that is supporting the site at the VIP level cares about whether or not it's showing in their avatar

I just think its important that people know that being on the site and able to post is not a right that they have just because it's an on line forum. Jerry makes it possible and has never put pressure on anyone to help financially. If you choose to do so, great. If not, then that's a choice for some reason

Many forums have different tiers, from enthusiasts (that may not pay) to different levels of membership. That doesn't mean that because someone pays more to the site that they are somehow more important. It has more to do with what value the site may have and ensuring that the site stays active and healthy with enough traffic. Many sites have a ton of advertising to cover expenses and its frustrating to visit as it slows things down and its just cluttered and busy with unrelated information. While this site has a very small amount of advertising (on a non member level only), it is really not enough to take away from the good experience to be on here

If this site for some reason went away, imagine all the information that would disappear with it. It would really be a loss. What kind of value it actually has is up to each individual person to decide

Hello everyone, I feel like I should say something here. First thanks for everyone for either being a regular member or VIP member. Also we owe Les a huge Thanks!!

The server for A/N costs me just under $300 monthly. There are annual things I have to pay for too. I pay amazon S3 monthly to backup off site as well. I have backups going everywhere.
I probably spend about 10-20 hours of my time monthly dealing with things forum related and it can be annoying when I am trying to run my other business when its busy. There are a lot of security concerns these days. Luckily I am a server admin anyway for my company, so I know how to do this!
As an example we lost the one of the server hard drives last month and although i was up all night dealing with it, nobody noticed. Its ok, I am very happy with the way it is.

I think I still run this at a loss, but I dont care. Norton Commandos are my life! (and my wife/ dogs).

There really is no pressure. VIP members were introduced a few years ago to help me cover these costs and it works! I dont care if you are a VIP member or not and seriously NO PRESSURE. the main thing is keeping all this info to help all, especially the younger generation understand how to keep them on the road.

During the initial VIP setup I was thinking what I can do to offer more. There is a list of all benefits at the VIP link page. The most important thing to me was to encourage users to upload their photos here instead on 3rd party places, so the pics are always here (ref photobucket problem). There are many advantages by being a VIP that most dont even notice. I agree with others on this thread that the reason most sign up is because they care about keeping these bikes on the road and are trying to help anyway they can.

I could easily take more permissions away from regular users and force VIP. I will never do that though.

So what happens to the forum if I ride over a cliff?
Sorry Matt, I already told my wife to call you haha

Cheers everyone- Have a fantastic day

Jerry

Coincidentally, I was just trying to renew my cherished VIP status on the member host site and got an "Oops" error from the page. I guess my money ain't good 'nuff 'round these parts, Eh?

Eh, would you be kind enough to send me a screen shot of the error accessnorton at geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeemail

Any thought to offering a lower tier membership than full VIP.? I agree that the most attractive part of VIP is ability to post photos directly.

Hmmm... I just tried to log onto " https://dev2host.com/support/ to check my payment details and got the same error!
From what I can tell, this started yesterday afternoon when I tried to sign up as a VIP member. I think I broke the Internet (again). Jerry's looking into it as we speak.

Hi all VIP members,

The login issue has been resolved. Sorry about that.

I have not considered a lower VIP tier. I have been thinking about a higher level VIP for any classic motorcycle businesses who would like to advertise a full page ad here at accessnorton. It isnt going to happen though because it would open up a can of worms for Les and I. For example we could get in the middle of disputes and we already have enough of those haha at our lovely forum.

All for now have a great evening or day depending on where you are,

Cheers

Perhaps a compromise of some kind of discount for multi-month/year pre-pay? I think you'd get more numbers willing to cough up some scratch if there were lower entry point thresholds.
If going to an advertisement model as outline in your last, then I'd like to see an opt-out of seeing AD's as a VIP member.

Hello Jerry. I was going to ask about selling ad space to cover costs. That seems to be a popular method of offsetting costs for other sites. (With the option of zero ads for paid members.) Anyway, after following this thread for the past few days, I have to say information from this group has kept my new-to-me 850 on a good path to being a safe and reliable machine. I just signed up for two years of VIP.

Regards,

If something you learn here saves you from sending a part out, or purchasing a new part, think about what you saved in both time and money.

I suggest that you consider donating some portion of what you saved; perhaps a 3rd tier called "Supporting Member" may be kicked around??

Is the password different to register as a VIP member? It won’t accept my email and password??

Yup...you need a different password and/or username (I think it's your actual email addy) for the membership hosting site login.
