Didnt want to hijack the other thread. Now as far as VIN tags go mine is just barely legible. It is a matching numbers bike. Engine, trans, and tag on the neck. I have to assume that the original tag is the way to go but it would be nice to have a readable one. There is no color left to it and you have to stand on one foot to actually read the number. It is the real thing though. I suppose its best to leave it alone.

Replace it with new and keep the old one - best of both worlds and very cheap, AN will even stamp it for you!

My bike has matching engine and gearbox numbers and I presume the original frame but the VIN plate has never been stamped with a number , only stamped June 72 . It's definitely an old plate , just about worn out . I'm surprised it's lasted all these years without someone doing something about it. It's always passed yearly MOT inspection , no questions asked .

I have the original tag with the correct numbers but it has been sand blasted there is no paint, that said does anyone sell the red in an over lay ?

Andover Norton and their dealers carry new tags. If you give them your VIN number, they will even stamp it for you. You need items 2b and 3 shown in the link. Be sure to look in the top/right of the page. Change the money type from Pounds Sterling to US dollars to see the price.

For Jackman's 1969-70 model the certification plate would be 06.1286.

Thanks L.A.B. I was hoping for the black tag but red it will be

Yes, the black plate was for German models (or mainland Europe?) however, I don't think we have seen an example of an original black 06.4916 plate...yet.

Well that’s really interesting I’ll see if I can get the black one because 40 years ago I was US Army in Germany and I had a USA Suzuki GS750 , USA bikes were badged GS750 and Euro bikes were GSX750 so I rebadged my bike , I’ll do the same for the Norton .
