On another thread not related to its topic, the subject came up about the VIN numbers and years.
The 10th character means the manufacturer year.
In my case on both my Commando and my Domi Naked, the 10th character is G. G denotes 2016.
To avoid confusion there is no “I” ( I as in inventory). This avoids the confusion as the number 1.
A = 2010
B = 2011
C = 2012
D = 2013
E = 2014
F = 2015
G = 2016
H = 2017
J = 2018
K = 2019
L = 2020
M = 2021
N = 2022

Stu Bodycote is checking to see if he can find more info.

Ive just had a nosey in my workshop at some vins....one Commando is coming up as a California :oops:
I remember the first Naked being made, it was for Stuarts missus, as a birthday present. I'll see if I can find pics of it, as the date stamp will tell you when the Nakeds ran from. I bet the very first one's just carried the same model code as a standard Domi. Ive had a euro 4 Naked in, and that 6th character was indeed a K.

My commando is a 2016 SF
MY Naked is a 2016 non ABS but has evap
can.
My naked also has the older style Domi plate holder mount for non ABS

From memory, all bikes destined for America had the evap canister, along with side reflectors front and rear, and a larger rear light unit in red, and obviously a headlamp lens with the kickup to the right....and emissions data decals on the frame.
ABS is the biggest give away of being a euro 4 bike...euro 3 didn't have abs

What do you mean headlight lens with the kickup to the right?

My 2016 commando doesn’t have the evap can. But my 2016 Naked does.

You'll either have a flat image or a kick up to the right, as you guys drive/ride on the wrong side of the road.
How much consistency do you expect from Norton....considering Ive got a Commando Sport in with a California frame number lol

Yeah but they didn’t even have the California models in 2016 lol. So it’s more like the California has a Commando SF frame number in my case.

Not seeing how a motorcycle headlight has a flat or offset headlight.

I just checked my VIN and I have an E , so this is 2014 which matches the paperwork I got with the bike.

Think we're talking across each other here.
Im saying you cant trust Nortons for consistency in frame decoding, seeing as Ive got a 2018 Commando in that comes up as a California. I remember numerous times where a near finished build would be stripped and rebuilt into something else.
Headlights have a beam image to suit what side of the road you ride on ie we ride on the left, so the beam image kicks up to the left. If you had a UK spec lens in USA, you'd be dazzling oncoming traffic.
