Hello every one.
I'm new here.
I’m a 961owner in Japan since 2014.

Recently my961 often got a white smoke especially when it’s idle speed.

I’m suspicious about valve stem seals but I can hardly get any parts for Norton 961 in Japan.

Please let me know where to get valve seals for my 961.

Any information I will thank you.

Hello Hideo , How many miles now on the engine ?

Valve seals are to seal oil.

Oil being burnt generally creates a blue smoke.

White smoke is normally indicative of water being burnt.

Obviously on an air cooled engine this might seem strange, But it could simply be condensation build up in the engine / exhausts etc. Especially in the cold weather.

White steam is water. White smoke is generally burnt oil ie oil burnt in the exhaust system that has not been through the combustion process....exhaust valve guides and/or seals.

Thank you guys! Good forum! Very good advice!

My961 is over 30000miles and over 8 years old.
Even after long ride,I could see a lot of white smoke.
So I think the smoke would be from oil.

My dealer will touch my961 in March.
I will prepare for that. I could see the light at the end of the tunel.

Thank you again! Hideo

Is your airbox completely drained?

Ever had a turbo fail on a petrol car? Thick white/grey smoke...doesn't smell nice either. When it's burning oil, that smells much nicer...better than some of the candles my missus buys for the house anyhow 😆
Stu,
Have you not seen the Yankee Candles 'Castrol R' and 'Aroma Du Methanol' limited edition candles?

Oil smoke with any air cooled engine I've encountered has always been decidedly blue.

Which reminds me- I have a winter top end rebuild to get on with!
