Sorry you have to sell your Norton Gregg, I would say that it sounds as if your bike is worth every bit of the 5500-6500. Hopefully the gas tank is steel and not a fiberglass one as the new fuel eats away at the older resin. Pictures would help in est. value. Cj

Hello Gregg in Ohio

A picture helps with appraisals with bike value but 5500 to 6500 sounds about right. If you are not able to kick start the bike anymore and is the reason that you want to part with it then there are conversions for changing your bike over to electric start. Old brits and Alton both have conversion kits for pre Mark 111 Norton Commandos.

yep the tanks is steel/....i know about those fiberglass tanks..i used to be president of the central ohio norton owners association ...back then and we did alot of rallys,,logged lots of miles the su carb conversion was the best thing that ever happend to that bike,,fully tunable and u could squeeze 75 mpg from the 750 with a 21 tooth front sproket..pulled like a freight train..phonix ltd ? i think from england had the car kit back 20 yrs ago..from england..ill try to post some pics...im 60 and weigh 120 and legs are pretty weak from the previous back surgery..so kicking a 150 psi twin cyl bike doesnt happen anymore..oh i did drain the oil from the engine it wet sumps and return it to the oil tank before i tried to kick it,,lol..if it sits for a long period it will wet sump ..but there is a fix for that nowdays,..guys im just out of shape and getting old..old and shrinking..used to race a bsa victor with ahrma the first year they started..and raced WERA road racing..had the #1 plate a couple years..in the 500c class..late eightys..untill they started letting honda 450,s run with us ,,and quit,,used to have 15 nortons ..was real good frieds with Xanders brit bikes..he passed away and i miss talking to him..thanks gregg wills in kenton ohio

Check the "for sale" section in this forum. There are a couple of bikes for sale there, one is a '72 Interstate. You can also go to Ebay and follow some auctions or use the advanced search and look at completed auctions to see what is actually selling. Good luck selling the bike.

I know you will miss the Norton, but I think you will also really enjoy the Sportster. I love mine. You get the feel of a vintage bike with modern convenience, also the torque at low revs is great. The model you are looking at is supposed to have good suspension components and handle pretty well. The standard Sportster stuff is junk. I updated mine with Progressive bits and it handles fine now. A set of free breathing pipes and air cleaner and rejetting the carb from the lean EPA settings will really wake up the engine.

well boys its gone ..got 6000 out of it in trade torwards the 09 hd xr1200 with 3400 miles...then the 84 xr200r went also then the 86 vf500 honda interceptor...bunch of stuff that was garage queens and hardly ever rode..now i have 2 less bikes to wrench on..but still have my 86,87 vfr700,s..for them long trips..i bought the bike in 1983 for 300 bucks..and logged over 20k miles on it ..not really gonna miss it im getting older and consolidating stuff i dont use..thanks gregg in ohio

You're not getting old, just wiser, at least that's what I tell myself, but I may be kidding myself.
