I don't think I have posted this previously. Motorcycle sidecar speedway racing commenced in Australia in 1929. Modern sidecars race in the opposite direction to the ones in this video and don't have the lean.

 
I think the tilt you are referring to was the one which was controlled by the passenger in the sidecar turning a wheel ? The lean on our older speedway sidecars was fixed. Normally the races are run in only one direction (clockwise) and the bikes go up to the fence in the straights and down to the pole line in corners. The effect is much faster than with a sitter sidecar. But with a sitter sidecar you have the flexibility to choose whether you go high or low. It is much more dangerous because nobody has brakes and one bike can pop-in in front of another. With the leaning sidecars, that cannot happen. It looks dangerous, but it is very safe. With larger circuits, it is usual to reduce the lean.
