United States and War

Indeed journalists have been doing it for years, making stories up against all sorts of people, falsely accusing people in the newspapers of murder when it was subsequently proved by the police that they were innocent ( well in the UK anyhow) we are unlikely to find out if the proof was ever there on some on the high up positions about their behaviour because it has become an official secret and the information is locked away for 50 years, when by then either people will have either forgotten about it or are dead.

I get what you are saying but I dont see what it has to do with anything said above.

Those articles are fact based, credible and undisputed... In the US we have libel laws.

The latest chapter in how to divert attention from Impeachment. Had we left Saddam alone in the first place, he would have kept Iran in check. But the moron hadda burn those precious oilfields.

Interesting, it's a local website, that might be the reason.

Might not mean a whole lot to someone who hasn't been following the minutia of the impeachment/isn't in the US and doesnt hear about politics fucking constantly.

I think I'm done talking politics for a bit anyhow.

There is an EU directive on Data protection which covers all sites viewable inside the EU, its a badly written piece of law which takes longer to read and understand than it takes to change your website to comply, even then you cannot be sure of compliance. So its easier just to stop EU IP addresses from viewing your site.

Don’t you mean to say “. . . If Carter had left the Shah in place . . .? ”

Carter couldn't have kept the Shah in place without major war. So rather than "left the Shah in place" is should be why did he not prop up a ruthless fascist? I think the answer is obvious. What he should have done is bought the farmers off after he screwed them like Trump did, another less-than-zero sum for political gain at home. Then he would have had 2 terms.

Critter cut the legs out from under the Shah, he may as well have brought the Atatollah in from Paris, and installed him in office.

We had a sweet deal - equipping a 600,000 man military that faced the USSR all paid for with Iranian oil.

Iranian society was secular and Westernized. Carter pushed it back into the Dark Ages with his woefully mistaken “human rights” policies. No doubt the KGB was a booster behind that idiocy. Do the women of Iran thank Carter?

Before Carter’s blunder, the US could play off Shia against Sunni, Iranians against Saudis.

Carter pushed the US into the loving arms of the Saudis. What an idiot!

What a twisted mess ... was there ever the good old days ..... now Prince Harry wants to live in Canada a letter in paper today claims it cost $1.7 million to protect him per year and Canada got 800,000 folks eating at food banks daily ...

My Iranian friend said the Shah was a good guy and the only reason he was toppled was he would not kill.

Yep all over the news in the UK morning noon and night, as if him and his wife are the only people of interest, most of us are now pretty sick of it, unless you are an ardent royal supporter. (And even then.........) the big debate is exactly who is going to pay for all this, the British taxpayers have already spent 2.5 million pounds on knitting out their home at Winsor (frogmore) I wish them all the best but at the same time I wish they would go and give us all a break.

Doesn't seem like we ever left those arms despite the 911 hijackers being Saudis. Is every Pres since then an idiot? The current moron doesn't count. Too easy. All those pics of the Bushes holding hands with the Saudi leaders made me want to puke.

All Carter did was let the Iranians have their way with their monarchy. Watching the anti-government protests over there makes me think those Dark Ages have a lot of light around the edges.

Any attempt to give Middle East countries democracy to secure their oil ignores the facts. Only way to do it is back a despot until he's overthrown and move to the next despot. None of the evils are lesser. Had we just let them kill each other and waited until the dust cleared, we'd have a lot more money and a bunch more healthy veterans instead of desk clerks claiming PTSD and burgeoning military cemetaries. And still had plenty of oil. Since WWII, all wars have been fought on behalf of vested interests rather than for defense of democratic principles or home soil. And a good long oil shortage would have expedited clean energy and independence from the bastards.

Now we're one of the biggest oil producers and we STILL have to defend the oil companies with blood and treasure. Oil production is a huge pool and it's gonna get bought somewhere. No reason to gaf where it was drilled, other than keeping the wealthy wealthier. And that American-equipped Iranian Army was instrumental in ousting the Shah.

I'm sure some of you are familiar with this quote.

"I spent thirty-three years and four months in active military service as a member of this country's most agile military force, the Marine Corps. I served in all commissioned ranks from Second Lieutenant to Major-General. And during that period, I spent most of my time being a high class muscle-man for Big Business, for Wall Street and for the Bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism."

U.S. General Smedley Butler, 1933.

It's been the same forever, denying it is simply ignoring fact.

In other news, Parnas is confirming everything we already suspected. Our whole government is corrupt. Where are the Republicans calling for justice?

Nothing at all to do with that republican D. Trump I presume?

Danno and NPeteN - I agree with almost all of what you have said just above.

We are fellow isolationists who deplore American interventionism and attempts at “nation building.”

Let's round this up to say $400k, less the actually operating costs of the rooms (I'll use 50%) and now what Trump would personally profit from the $200k which is a tiny fraction on the $200k. People who have no idea how things work put into their heads that Trump is personally putting $400k in is pocket from the hotel rooms.

Whole bunch of nonsense put into people's heads by the media.

Sure. Can't argue with that. I'd say the gesture was more symbolic than profit driven.

I think this speaks for itself.

"I make a lot of money with them. They buy all sorts of my stuff. All kinds of toys from Trump. They pay me millions and hundred of millions."

-2015

I wonder if American soldiers count as "toys from Trump".
