Ukraine airline flight PS752

Of course the Iranians can always say that it was a bring your child to work day and a mischievous 4 year old child got his/ her grubby litte fingers onto the missiles fire button! . . . If only it wasn't so serious, it would be funny.

@ashman

In defense of Trident Sam, i think he was responding to your statement regarding no peace in the middle East . .... yes, Islam is the principal problem there ..... they teach and believe theirs is the only religion (I can accept that viewpoint) and that Allah commands them to kill or enslave infidels ..... infidels are you and me (that is abhorrent to me, as well as the concept of a God who commands death to others). Until Islam rejects that view, as well as several other abhorrent beliefs (abuse of women, martyrdom and 72 virgin rewards, etc) there will never be peace, and Muslims will never be fully accepted and live in harmony with the rest of the civilized world.

Slick

PS: Hell's bells, .... the Sunni and Shi'a muslims cannot live with each other!

Exactly .
Thank you

Texas, Sam
Probably not too popular given the current situation but Islam does not teach the killing of infidels or martyrdom within the Qua’ran. Like ALL religions it teaches peace and acceptance but the message has been bastardised by those who seek to do harm to others who are “not like us”. It is a much longer debate but the image of Islam put forward which advocates hate is not correct - terrorists are just terrorists, they need no other label, calling them Islamic terrorists (the West) or Christian terrorists (the Middle East) simply maintains a hatred between people dating back to the Crusades.
This is certainly not one sided, the Nazi party sought to make the world in the image of perfect Christian people - both figuratively and with medical science (White Arian), the KKK wants the same in the name of Christ - who was from the Middle East.

Hell’s Bells, Northern Ireland shows us the Catholic’s and the Anglican Christians cannot live with each other!

I don’t expect you to agree with me, and I respect your right to hold your own views, but let’s not paint billions of peaceful Muslims with the same brush because of nutters in the Middle East.

John,
I accept that billions of Muslims are peaceful, and as there are billions, that means a huge minority are certainly not peaceful, and are intent on destroying the west.See photos of Muslims in London grieving the death of the Iranian general.
Yes, all the other religions have a lot of blame, but lets just accept that most terrorism is Muslim inspired, whether that's from the dreadful Saudi regime , Isis or whatever.
Did you know that the Waffen SS had a battalion of Muslims, did they join to help the Nazi regime, I think not, but probably just to kill Jews.
From what I've read, they left a lot to be desired as soldiers, no change there then

Sam,
I agree with some of what you say - particularly in relation to acts of terrorism in the name of Islam. Irrationally, I also think twice when I board a tube or train in Certain parts of London and see a large number of “Islamic” men - I usually get a grip of myself before I allow my imagination to go wild. I believe that a greater understanding of religion from both sides will help to bring people together - but the radicals will always oppose it as it dilutes........(add racist message)
Are you aware that Muslims are called to accept the teachings of Christ, they believe in the virgin birth (God can do anything) and both the old and new testaments form part of their beliefs.
We usually only see what the mainstream media and the nutters on social media want us to see and we need to be open to possible bias in those reports.
One thing is certain, where religion is involved the message becomes twisted - usually by men - in order to suit their agenda. It becomes dangerous when state laws are the same as religious laws (Saudi) so if you don’t agree with the religion, you are an enemy of the state.
The 72 virgins message is not related to violence, it relates to non violence - as in - if you die or are persecuted for your belief (Islam) then God/Allah will reward you in the next life.
We (Christians) have the same belief, we call these people Martyrs, those who refused to renounce their beliefs and died for it.
Religion and politics - a sure fire way for discourse and disharmony.

As for mistaking the plane for a cruise missile, do we know if flights had been grounded and the pilot ignored? If an attack is imminent, underway, just happened the military usually advise commercial flights to divert and delay as they might become targets - after 9/11 flights were grounded for days, after the July bombs in London flights (and public transport) were stopped for 24 hours.
Not excusing the mad Iranians but there may be more to it.....(or not)

It's bad airspace even when not in a state of war. Nobody should be flying through there when hostile action is taking place.
I fly through the region a few times a year and hate the feeling of flying above Iran, Syria or Iraq, even passing through at 30,000 feet. USS Vincennes and USS Stark tragedies show that even more sophisticated systems and trained personnel can make tragic errors. But no commercial flight should fly such an area in times of tension, no matter the cost to the airline or the passenger. It's usually up to the airline or its government regulators to make the call of what airspace it is allowed. Tragic.

Yes our Prime Minister should have been on top of this , now he stands wringing his hands in front of cameras , our Country has no power to demand that amends of some sort are made .... he just say I very angry this has happened ..

Just saying Hi for all the Presbyterians out there.

It was much easier when we worshipped a stick.

Just saying hi to Time Warp and fellow Presbyterians out there. Now you have had someone's attention could you please (subtle hint) direct yourselves to your own religious web site and avoid these non religious websites as, quite frankly it lowers the tone, another subtle hint.

Time Warp's comments were not hateful or otherwise malicious, and this is the Pub forum. No need for self righteousness restrictions
of others expressions. Just a subtle hint

If you're going to cut out the Presby stuff, you should probably cut out the Muslim stuff too...

A note needs to be made regarding the clear and defined distinction between Islam and RADICAL Islam, those who live by the Muslim philosophies and those who use those philosophies to achieve a radical end benefiting their own ends.

My next door neighbor is Muslim. Great guy with two great kids, we share time and my shop with some interesting discussions. I don't judge him by his religious beliefs...but by the person he is.
We need a whole lot more of that.

My dad was on a Polaris sub during Vietnam. One day we went to visit him on base to have dinner with him and he took us into a diesel electric sub for a tour.

He told me and my younger brothers there were two things that we absolutely could not touch: the General Quarters alarm and the blow ballast button.

Bad thing to do.

My little brother hit the GQ button. Luckily.
